What are the insurance benefits that you refer to? I've just had a quote off their site for caravan insurance and it was more than double of other quotes.
Hi Helen and anyone else. I make extensive use of the Caravan Club insurance service.
We are in Mayday - the CC breakdown assistance service. It is done through Green Flag and is cost effective compared with other breakdown services. Also, if you are towing a caravan and are going to a site that you have pre-booked, they will tow you to the site (with the caravan) and then, if the car is not repairable, will tow you back home again at the end of your holiday (Double journey.) Some of the other breakdown assistance companies will put restrictions on what they will recover if you are towing e.g. size of caravan etc.
Caravan Insurance is not the cheapest, but I believe provides excellent cover. If you have your van stolen the last thing you want is a load of hastle. We had ours stolen and the CC were really very good indeed. (read this thread: http://www.ukcampsite.co.uk/chatter/display_topic_threads.asp?ForumID=8&TopicID=214206&PagePosition=2 ) Our van was stolen at the same time as someone elses on our storeage site. Although we were insured by different companies, we hadthe same loss adjuster. The other person had to meet the loss adjuster (on site) and explain what had happened and this was followed by a three hour interview. I offered to go too. He told me that I wouldn't be required at all and everything went through (almost 'on the nod') without any fuss - they were really good. I believe that the CC insurance people were helpful and did not try to 'get out of paying' any aspect of the claim.
We have our Car Insurance through the CC and they are very competative.
In the past we have used CC insurance for continental travel. The Red Pennant Continental Travel Insurance may not be the cheapest, but it is very comprehensive. Our car was recovered from just outside Geneva one year, and they brought us a new Discovery with a towbar, to use for the remainder of our holiday.
In addition to this we do use the main CC sites (but not exclusively). Again, they are not the cheapest sites around, but I have found them cheaper than sites of an equivalent (excellent) standard. There are aspects of CC sites that I find a bit annoying (e.g. I like to be able to book a specific pitch etc), but being a member opens up a whole range of sites which otherwise would not be available.
As a caravanner, I wouldn't be without the Caravan Club.
I am also a member of the C&CC, but use the facilities much less. Site fees are a little cheaper, but then the standard of the sites, we find a bit more variable. Again, being a member opens up another range of possible sites.
Hope someone might find this info. useful!
