CAMC is caravan and motorhome club. What part of Suffolk are you in? we have found plenty of CLs in that county.

I'm in the UFO capital of England, RAF Bentwaters, thats where we have short arms and very deep pockets, in frugality we can give Yorkshire a run for their money. Our local campsites offer outsiders a special offer of "buy one night for the price of two and get one free", locals get two for one.

Joking aside, having already been a member in the past, I certainly won't be paying good money to join again.

Have you ever stayed at 5 van sites? they are very different from Club sites. They have owners, not wardens. They will usually come to see you on the first day to point out the facilities and take your money. Some use bank transfer now. We use them all the time. We are at one now which is £17 per night. Oh, and there are 4 sites with electricity within 10 miles of Woodbridge. Had to google Bentwater.

Not being or intending to be a member I would not have stayed at 5 pitch sites.
Without looking or naming, there are indeed 4 sites close by.
All have the same problem Greed! Two are owned by the same family and are the ones that charge for having an electric pitch plus the power used.
The other two I know in a professional capacity. They are of the opinion that they desire only those who can afford the high prices thus excluding "commoners".

I’m kinda with StarCraft on this. CMHC in my opinion are a money making machine, not a mutual organisation. Why else would sites be so expensive?
Not for profit, supposedly! And not even wifi is free. Come on! In this day and age?
Dunno about C & CC - not tried them.

If CL’s and CS’s want to fill their pitches and not too fussy about membership, good luck to them. They are trying to make a few bob.

French sites using ACSI are cheap. U.K. sites are mainly dear, and hiking prices due to hook up costs- even though it’s summer and we are using very little power. Rip off Britain springs to mind.
Caravan Club defenders won’t like me saying it though.

Definitely rip-off Britain!

C&CC wifi, where available, is now often free although it didn't used to be. We used it at Sandringham recently. Very slow compared to home though.

I don't agree with the blanket rip off Britain but would agree plenty of sites are seeing an opportunity to increase prices.

But not sure that's a rip off, surely every business wants to make as much profit as they can? Everyone has bills to pay even if you own a 5 pitch site. So we take it or leave it and they dont get to rip us off if we leave it

This weekend I rang 2 CL's one wanted 28 plus 1 for the dog, the other 20 all in. Both had pitches available. I have booked a site with electric, loo and showers for next weekend 17 per night but tried another first in same place that wanted 31. Some sites are hiking prices but just as many aren't so it's unfair to tar every site with same brush.

Agree ACSI prices are cheap but similar to CL's accepting non members we have alway found sites will give the ACSI prices without us being members, especially winter when sites are no where near full.

We found plenty of site abroad would offer discounts to fill empty pitches if we rang a day or two before arrival, whereas in UK it seems the club's and independents would rather leave the pitch empty than offer a reduced rate.

We are trying our first CL next weekend so that will be interesting. £20 a night with EHU. We tried a few in the same area which ranged in price from £17 to £25 but this was the only one with a pitch for next weekend. We are a bit more limited in our choice of CL as we need one with a toilet. I’ll not go into why as some of you may be at your breakfast, but we have found a reasonable number in areas we like to visit so if this first trip goes well, we might start using CLs more often as long as we can get a pitch as some seem very popular and booked up weeks in advance.

We like CSs, (the C&CC equivalent) and that is our usual price range. We avoid anything over £25. All we really want is EHU, toilet & shower, and we much prefer grass to hard standing.

We never go anywhere over bank holidays though, or between the middle of July and the first week in September. Our garden is the best place for us at those times.

I'm sure you will be fine Pixie. Please leave a review. I know I am not up to date with mine yet. You are likely to fine more CSs with loos, as they cater for tent campers, but there are not so many CSs as CLs.
