I just feel sorry for all those site owners trying to run a business and people are cancelling left right and centre because the weather MIGHT be bad. Sorry you can't have any wages this week just because.......you lot who are not self employed do not know you are born!! I hope you have all paid none refundable deposits.

I have run my own business & suffered with cancellations. We offered to pay (in full) but told not to bother. He sounded relieved that we had cancelled and said the field was very wet.

We will spend 30+ nights on the site at some time this summer.

Sorry I sounded off at you a bit I know.... we run a guest house and we have had 3 cancellations for this weekend all I suspect because of weather forecasts. We were fully booked and turning people away and our policy is to charge for the first nights stay! which is fine but I haven't filled those three nights tonight and won't tomorrow I suspect so our income this weekend well down.

You obviously have a good relationship with the site owner and you will support him again. I just cringe at the hundreds of other people I suspect have cancelled sites because of weather ( and I won't get into the CC lack of deposits debate most people will know where I stand on that one!) Its hard saying to your Bank Manager the turnover  is 25% down this week because it rained...they don't understand!!

I know what its like. If I booked your b&b I would not dream of cancelling at short notice without expecting to pay.

We should have gone upto Chatsworth CC site today but due to the torrential rain we have had over the last 24hrs and me being under the weather with a tum bug, we have moved our booking to June, and hubby is now camped out in the caravan in the garden with our little grandaughter, so as not to disapoint her, and shes actually loving it!

we have just come back from chatsworth , the weather was horrible the site was so wet. and the drive to the site had more deep pot holes than i have ever seen. when we left this morning it was dry but as we drove towards chesterfield it was white with snow or sleet. the site had been full last week end. but im sure they will have had a lot of cancellations. im glad to be back home.

Hi

We're at Chatsworth House CC site at the moment - arrived yesterday.  The site does look a bit carved up on the verges etc and two pitches are coned off because they are waterlogged.

However, the sun has been shining brightly yesterday and today and apart from a bit of a chilly wind and some sharp showers, it is really lovely here!  Our pitch is on an open and sunny corner - it veritable sun-trap.

I'm so glad we ventured up here from Bristol.  I have never seen the Peak District before and am thoroughly enjoying it so far.

Chatsworth House is thronging with people today.  I have never seen such a influx of cars to a stately home.  It's even busier than Longleat and there isn't the attraction of an animal park here.

We're off to have a look around the National Park and possibly a wander around Bakewell now.

We'll I'm glad we didn't take notice of the forecast, it was meant to be wet and we've had a great long weekend, we had an odd shower but it was mainly sunny, we've been sat outside the van, it was perfect!

We are just back from 5 nights at Rowlestone where it was mostly wet and 5 at Welland in Worcestershire where the weather became wonderful. Yesterday afternoon we were sunbathing. Both lovely sites.

We had 3 damp days at Loch Awe in a hotel and then moved to Mull for the rest of the week where it was mixed with a glorious day on the Wednesday - didn't care if it rained or not as seeing places in all weathers adds to the experience plus if I'm doing that it means I'm not at work - yippee

Did you stay in Portsonachan hotel? We went there for our honeymoon.
