Bob, have you asked the site if they would accept tents with toilet facilities? it may not have occurred to them.

On another note, looking at sites for July, pricing up the Burford Club site (OHs nephew lives next to it), nearly £30 per night, ye gods! No wonder we use CLs/CSs where possible, but nephew and his girlfriend would think it very strange if we stayed elsewhere.

It’s not just club sites that are expensive, I just noticed an ad for the CMC pop up site at Beaulieu in the New Forest in the summer and they are charging £36 a night for a pop up site!

Unfortunately of my two favourite campsites, one was closed all last year and doesn't know if or when it will open this year, and the other seems to be accepting a minimum of 5 nights only, which is no good for me.

An update on this...just checked the website of one of my favourite sites again (Bridge House at Lechlade) and they are now opening on 19th April but only for caravans and motorhomes with their own facilities on the grounds that they won't be able to open the campsite facilities.

I understand them not being able to open their facilities but why refuse tents if they have their own camping toilet? What is the difference?

I have been going there two or three times a year since 2004 and now they won't accept tents. So much for loyalty!

Further update...just checked out my other favourite campsite website, Toms Field and Shop at Langton Matravers near Swanage, and that was always a tent and campervans only site...now they are only accepting campervans even if a tent has it's own facilities!!

I just don't get it. I can't see any difference at all between a campervan and a tent if they both have their own facilities...except one is on wheels! I wonder if these campsites that are banning tents will ban caravan and motorhome awnings...after all, they are just tents!!

I can foresee my camping days are over and wish I hadn't spent so much money at any one particular campsite during my camping years. Loyalty counts for nothing it seems.

I have emailed Toms field and will get back with a reply.

Well, I remain concerned that outdoor attractions are allowed to open, plus schools and other workplaces, with no thought of how people will need to share toilet facilities. It seems toilet facilities are only mega dangerous at campsites, with far fewer people likely to share them.
We need our campsites to be able to start generating income ASAP, or we will lose so many ☹️

My greatest concern is schools. I can't think of a better breeding ground for viruses than a school classroom. A large number of people from different households all sitting close together in an enclosed space for hours at a time! The next worst is probably a theatre or cinema, but at least they can restrict numbers and have every other row left empty and every other seat unoccupied. Schools can't do that. The risk in a school is probably not to the children themselves but to the teachers and especially the parents, who probably haven't been vaccinated yet. If we look at various venues for infection risk, schools would probably top the list and campsites would come way down it.

Best Regards,
Colin

I fully endorse keeping campsite toilets closed for the time being. I certainly wouldn't want to use a public toilet at the moment unless desperate. I am really annoyed though that many campsites are refusing to accept tents (previously their bread and butter), for no plausible reason that I can see if they have their own facilities. They obviously don't need the money.
