I have been using  Camping and Caravan club 'Big sites book' to try and find a reasonable site for Easter. I have to say that in me experience the price levels in the book are extremely inaccurate, sometimes three times the amount they are listed as.  Just  found a site with ehu at £11.75 which seems to be a bargain when even basic sites have been trying to charge extra for the dog, the awning, the kids.

Some of the problem may be that book prices are often based on prices for a year or so ago, when the sites had to submit the entry - though that doesn't really excuse a 200% increase. It might also be that the price quoted is, for instance, as far as the site is concerned just for the pitch; but you're looking for yourself, OH, children, dogs, .. etc. There seems to be no standard means to quote for a fee.

I have found the book to be inaccurate and complained to the C&CC, they replied that it is up to the site to submit correct details. In this case band G, which this site was 3 or so years ago, charged £12 last October so certainly no longer band G.

Time to repost me thinks lol. May have to go to an under a tenner thread now tho lol

Oh yes please .  I haven't read all the comments on this thread but it appears that tent pitches are much cheaper and we have a caravan.

To kick off - we've booked Tregarton Park, nr Mevagissey for June.  If you book 7 nights+ you get a discount so we've paid £10 per night which includes EHU and awning for the 2 of us

<Caroelle - have you looked up your DA you willl find a pitch with them on  one of there meets from about £5 may be a £1 more >

Thanks, we have gone to a brilliant DA meet in in Pembrokeshire in the past, but they are not open at Easter. There was also a good one near Marazion. One of our problems is that we have an older van- the oven died last year so we are fairly reliant on having an EHU.

I have been trying to find a meet or a temporary site for late July in Cornwall with an EHU, but with no success. I priced up one site that actually came out at £39 per night, and it wasn't top of the range by any means. Even the C and CC Bude site works out at over £24 per night. If you take into account the initial cost of buying a van, then storage,  maintainence, insurance, extra petrol etc, and add in the cost of rapidly rising site fees, caravanning no longer feels like a cheap alternative.

There are plenty of CSs and CLs in both counties, some are on here, some not, so you really need to be a club member to access them. We find it really pays to be members of both clubs. I can personally recommend Thornleigh Park Farm near Chester.
