We brought up 2 children, so spent about 20 years constantly with them. Once they left home, we were glad to be able to spend time together without children around. So for the 2 of us I would probably choose an adult only site, though when we camp out of season, there's few children anyway.

Even if I wasn't going away with my DD I still wouldn't probably go to an adult only site. Usually it's adults that cause more noise and craziness with their boozing and loud talking till all hours and making you smell their dirty fag smoke outside your tent (yuck!) on sites rather than most children during the day playing.
I've seen some little monsters on sites but on the whole kids are generally well behaved and polite.

But each to their own. I like chilled out, quiet wee sites and so noisy, boozy adult only sites just don't appeal!

Have you ever been to an adult's only site?   I've been to loads in the past 7 years and not one single adults only campsite we have stayed on has been "boozy" - they are quite the opposite I find - very quiet, might even be too quiet for some!

You are right though - the adults are usually louder than the children on mixed campsites.

We only use Adult sites and yet to find a noisy one!
If anyone knows of a noisy one please let us all know so that we can avoid them!

You'll never please everyone all the time, so it's good that sites vary in their choice of facilities, rules and regulations. Keeps everyone happy.

My friend, who is a site owner, asks any families who have caused problems to leave but in the morning. That way the parents have sobered up and all the other campers are up and about so they usually pack up and skulk off.

Personally, I would like to see more Adults Only sites. I am fed up og going on holiday and being woken up at stupid o'clock by kids. At one site, two kids disturbed us ervery morning at 4.45 am. My husband had a word with their dad and he said there was nothing he could do about it. I get up early even when camping but this was too much. I went home shattered, not refreshed.

Stayed on a site where the kids were being given cans of lager and told to amuse themselves so their parernts could sit there drinking without having to supervise them.

I won't camp at Bank Holidays now because that is when all the worst of the worst go camping with the poor decent families having to put up with the mayhem. Sick of people with massive tellies and stereos blaring out. I agree it must be hard for site owners, however, when people are paying money for a pitch site owners should enforce the rules.

More Adults Only sites please. Family sites far outnumber them.

I think it is great that there is such a variety of campsites, and that we are able to choose. We had some wonderful camping trips with 3 small children in the summer holidays, now we don`t have to do that. So it is a pleasure to choose the quieter times and campsites. Each to their own!

We prefer adult only sites where possible or use family sites during the week except in school holidays. Unfortunately it is a minority of children who are not supervised and don't care about rules etc that have caused us to take this attitude.
Nothing worse then being on a break in the caravan and children start kicking the ball near your unit and the parents still belong to the homo habilis age as they stagnate in their booze and cigarettes and couyldn't give a monkey what their children get up to!
We feel sorry for these children as one wonders where they will get in life with such uncaring parents.

The adult only sites that we know wouldn't tolerate drunken, boozy bad behaviour. They are usually the opposite, sometimes even too quiet, though that preferable to the opposite.

Yep that's the same as the adults only we use. Sometimes so quiet you could hear a pin drop. I'd prefer a happy medium but the alternative is my worst nightmare .

How strange, we are now up to 8 pages of postings and OP still has only made the one posting that started the topic.

We've been camping on and off for the past 22 years and our children were only 3/4 - would never allow them to be noisy - we had fun during the day and wore them out - as they got older we played games or went for a walk but we taught them respect for others - no shouting or loud games.  Okay there were times they weren't, but this was when we were with a large group of other campers around us.

Last year we noticed how noisy the site appeared to be, yes it was kids!!  The camp site was full.  There were tarmaced small roads and they were on bikes, skates etc..  Some were falling over crying, others arguing others screaming - this lasted until 11:30 ish - I really thought this is going to be the holiday from hell - The following morning it was noisy but it was parents packing - We'd hit the last day of the summer holidays.

We went out but when we came back (a campsite with 5 shower blocks) ended up with a few caravans and only 2 tents (one was ours) on this large campsite and the difference was from hell to heaven.  I think OH was relieved as he had booked it and thought it was only a small camp site (should've gone to UKCS).

So from then on we decided to definitely book out of school holidays and the last one we went to was adult only.  It is a matter of choice.

Someone said that these children are tomorrows' campers, I agree and I also agree that not all children are the same (worked in schools so I am well aware) but some parents do let  their children "loose" and it can spoil an idyllic holiday.

If anyone watches The Apprentice and paid attention - the vast market for camping/caravanning was over 50's, so with the economic climate as it is, perhaps smaller campsite owners are switching to adult only - but there is still a huge amount for families as well.

Having fun, yes, shouting and some of the language that goes with it, no!

Given the choice when I want a relaxing break I would vote for Adults only and no barking dogs.

You don't have a problem then, there are far more family sites than there are adult only sites.

If the facilities at adult only sites are in better condition then I would suggest that it is due to the people who use them.

I've been reading these posts with interest. Not because i have children but because I have 3 Westie dogs. Dogs get as much bad press as children on campsites.   My opinion is that is it always the owners & parents who are at fault. I've had lots of compliments on campsites in respect if how well- behaved my dogs are But given the opportunity to run loose then I'm sure hip they would cause havoc just like children do if not taught manners & respect. Many campsites I've been on children have been well- behaved yet the parents are the noisey ones. Like dogs there are well behaved children & bad behaved for me I would not go to a large family campsite & expect it to be quiet. However for a smallish site I would expect that. It's all about choice & personal preference. I feel sorry for many site owners theses days as they need to make a living and whilst maybe they wish they cld turn children & dogs away it does not make economic sense to do so. I've been on excellent sites with children out of control & also been on sites with dog owners who couldn't care less. In al circumstances its left to site owners & other campers to deal with when actually people shld be behaving responsibly. Sorry rant over.
