hi all i am just wondering at what wind speed is too strong really to camp in we always check the met office to see what the weather is before we leave for our weekends away but wondered what speed people consider too strong for the tent so that we have an idea weather or not to go out this time of year

We went away last year in november and the winds where nearly 100mph, we were in the van but there was a couple people camping. There tent was still standing in the morning unlike my little porch awning which was flattened against the side of the van
If the wind is too strong to pitch - wait until it dies down! All depends on your tent and how comfortable you are with it. The more you camp the better you get to know it. If you wake up in the morning with the tent on your face either the wind was howling or you need a stronger tent.

Once the tent is up I don't really worry too much ( obviously there is a point where I do worry ). I hate strong winds when I am errecting it as it just acts like a parachute. Anything over about 12 and I know errecting is going to be a little more difficult and anything above 20 make sure you have extra help.
All our tents have stayed up in extremely strong winds although it was scarey sitting inside them.
