Hi

I was wondering if anyone could recommend a really rural, remote campsite that offers very private pitches, out of the view of everyone else? I don't know if any of you are familiar with the U.S. state parks (specifically Missouri) but that's the kind of thing I'm talking about. I lived out there for two years recently and really got the outdoor bug, but I seem to recall that the vast majority of sites here are of the, "open field" variety, where everyone can see each other.

Any suggestions would be most appreciated.

Cheers

D

There is one in the Duddon Valley ( Lakes) which is quite remote - though perhaps not as much as you want - years ago we camped arund the back of a large boulder and felt very isolated. It never gets too busy anyway - though there is no EHU, I don't think. As I said - years ago and it may have been changed. can't find the name on here but a phone call to Tourist info might help.

I love camping wiht others - but also like to be isolated sometimes so can quite understand. Hope you find what you are looking for.

Try some of the CS sites. They are only licensed for 5 units and generally have quite basic facilities. You need to be a member of the C&CC club and they are listed in the Big Book of Sites under areas. You might get lucky and find you are the only ones camping!

I also like quiet/seclued sites and pitches.  And we dont like sites where your pitching in regimented rows.

What about any of the forestry commission sites?  Setthorns site  in the new forest? and the ones in the forest of Dean?  I havent been there myself, and I dont think there will be anywhere where you will find no other people - but with foresty/wooded sites you might be able to pitch in a woody bit/amongst trees and not be pitched so regimented.

Basically, I live and work in London and put in very long hours. On the rare occasions I do get time to myself, I want just that - time to myself. It's not that I'm anti-social (the mirror opposite, in fact) it's just that I really appreciate a bit of, "me" time once in a while.

Well, I think I've found one, Sid, but I'll keep schtum until I come back. Let's just say it's North of London, and I'm going next weekend.
