Hi,
Has anyone got a plan of the Harbour campsite in Southwold. We have been allocated two pitches but have no plan.
I like to know where I am before I arrive,(Is that too fussy???)
Thanks,
Helen.

Hi,
Got a site plan today with a confirmation of the booking, Guess where I am- Right next to the loos in the middle of the field.
I'm exceptionally disappointed and not a little disgruntled to say I wrote in January and asked for a pitch on the edge of the campsite!!!!
Got my own answer I guess....
Regards,
Helen.
Helen, it's not being fussy, it's getting what you want for your money.
As there is only me, the missus and TessDog, I always ask for a quieter area of the park if possible. Haven't been disappointed as yet but would definitely show my disapproval on arrival if the pitch is not what I expected or at least a compromise.
I can be little forceful at times (much to the dismay and embarrassment of my missus) and in your situation I would make it perfectly clear that the pitch they have allocated is not suitable and politely ask that there must be another somewhere nearer to what you requested.
Another ploy I would use (you need a dog for this one) is to tell them that the dog is a little nervous and will annoy neighbours with her barking if we're in an area with too much pedestrian traffic, e.g. too close to the loos.

i would be contacting the site and expressing my dissaproval now before i went. Worth the price of a phonecall and you may well be able to re-site your pitch.

Did as you said and they couldn't place me away from the loos!( I wrote in January and gave them the full six weeks of the summer holiday to find me two edge pitches, for any two week slot.)
At first they said that I couldn't get my £50 deposit back, but I made a formal complaint and now they're doing it.
They were pleasant enough but I've suggested to Waveney district council, that they invest in some software for direct on line booking through their Council site.
This isn't happening as the site will be controlled by the town council in 18 months and so they said they won't invest in it.(Despite the obvious savings they'd be making and an improved service.)
Anyway the upshot is, we now cannot go as I won't spend my two weeks next to some toilets.
If anyone wants to camp at this site get confirmation of where you'll be before they take your money. Also I have been told that to get a pitch you want you should look to book 12 months in advance. (Apparently even in January I was 36th on the waiting list.)
Thanks for the support.
Regards,
Helen.
Helen - they always say there is a waiting list, we've just turned up in the past and there is always space - you just have to be stern with them. There are only council employees afterall !!
When does the town council actually take over?
We're there tomorrow (fri 21/9/07) and I only phoned yesterday for a pitch.
If you see a 'FULL' sign - then you know it's empty !!
