Hi,
I am looking for a camp site that will take tents for over the May bank holiday.
We live in St Helens and don't want to go too far away as by the time my husband finishes work and we get going if we go too far it will be dark!
We normally go to Abbey Farm in Burscough, but they are full. At easter we went to Gibraltar Farm over looking Morcambe Bay but in the bank holiday traffic I think it may be a bit late by the time we get there.
Any suggestions?
Ideally we would like to be no more than 45 minutes away.
Our only stipulation is that it is child friendly .
Please help.
I have used the camp site search on here endlessly, but I was just hoping for a few personal suggestions.

The Plassey near Wrexham has good reviews, but have not been there myself.

Hi Lindsey,  We live in Rainhill I think your best bet is Chester / North Wales the Runcorn Bridge isn't too bad these days. We have been to the Plassey 18 months ago nice site but do not allow children on bikes.

We have also been to Glencote Park in Shropshire but we only left on a Friday after we picked daughter up from school wasn't to bad to get to was there in two hours lovely site with steam railway and canal near by.

Have a look at Whitchurch and surrounding areas, that way you are avoiding M6 all together.

try beacon fells at longridge weve been a few times they have a swimming pool club,and playarea ideal really the only down side is that tents are really high up on a field and its a steep walk to the toilets

Try Red Bank farm, it is near gibralter farm but much nicer

We had a look at Red Bank Farm and didnt like it at all. We wouldnt stay there. We've just had a weekend at Carrog station campsite which is bout 1hr 20mins away. The site is basic and doesnt have showers but it is great value for money and very clean - cost us £26 for 2 nights for a folding camper with awning and electric. The train runs into Llangollen from the station across the road and there is a lovely pub which does great food just a 5 mins walk away across the river bridge.
