Has anybody camped on the Isle of Mull or Iona in Scotland? I know there must be a few camp sites there but I cant find any and there are none listed on this site.

We used to camp on the Isle of Mull many years ago on a strip of land owned by the Mull council. The beauty of this strip of land was because it backed the beach at the head of the bay of Loch na Keal. No facilities, just a stand pipe and an elsan point. You could pitch your tent out looking over this beautiful sea loch with views to die for and your nearest neighbours 50 yards away. Sometimes a man would show up for the money and sometimes he wouldnt. I dont know if its still there so someone else might come along who has been there recently.

Hi Guys I have been to both Isle of Mull and Iona but not camped there, although we slept in the car  at a place called Calgary along the coast,my understanding is that this is not an official site but there were some tents there.I read somewhere that if you travel right along the coast road to phiannaphort (iona ferry) continue past there onto private land, there is a small campsite there, but I can't remember where I read this( thought it was camping magazine) the owner doesn't advertise because it is so remote.

The isle of Iona is only able to be reached by ferry but so very small I don't think there are any campsites there. You could contact the Scottish Tourist Board who I am sure would be able to assist you.

Both areas are extremely pretty and unspoilt and yes Tobermory is where Balamory is filmed.Need a full tank as soon as you come off Mull ferry! I wish you well with your search and hope you make it to these places.Well worth a visit.

There are several sites on Mull.Shieling Holidays in Craignure just a little way from ferry(i used to work there)Also one in Salen 11 miles from ferry going towards Tobermory. Then there is one in Tobermory. You can camp on calgary beach for free right on the beach. There ar toilets there and somewhere to wash voted best toilets block. There is no campsite on Iona as it is foot passenger only ferry and only a very small island but there are campsites on the way there. It is 37 miles to Iona from Craignure.I would suggest you stick to campsites from Craignure to Tobermory as there is more to see and do.Hope you enjoy your hols on  this beautiful island. If you want any more info please ask.Margie

I think you have been given all the sites. We are going in September October and booked the site at Fishnish. It is a lovely Island. If you like wildlife book a trip with David Woodhouse he will show you loads. Providing they are all playing on the day you go you should see Golden eagle, white tailed sea eagle and otter. As it is wildlife he cannot be certain of finding them, but he did on the two trips we made with him. We now know how to look for these lovely creatures ourselves. Wildlife is the reason we keep going back to Mull. If you want any pointers on likely spots of where to find the above, let me know and I will post some locations where we have seen them. What time of year are you going?

Valerie
