Hi all. We're looking for some recommendations for a site in the Peak District for a long weekend. We're hoping to go cycling on some of the valley trails (Tissington / Monsal) but will also need to go over to Alton Towers for one day. We like quiet sites - so prefer there to be no club / bar on site. Nice clean showers with good hot water and spacious pitches. We're a family of 4 with two girls 10 & 13. It's nice if there are some things to do on the site but the girls prefer woods and walks to playgrounds and stuff. We've done a search but nowhere is leaping out at us yet. Suggestions please! Cheers

Try Rivendale, been twice and loved it, look on reviews, also there is a thread about this site at the moment as someone asked about it.

Highfields Farm is our favoured site. Our three girls love it there.

We loved Lickpenny lane in Matlock. Lovely site, nice private feeling pitches, small shop/reception. Only downside no real walks from the site. In a great place though, 5 mins in car from Matlock bath and the Heights of Abraham

lickpenny is nice but doesnt take tents

highfields farm is ok, as is rivendale, which is opposite the tissington trail.   Also, Newhaven is nice but can be a bit water logged, depending what field you are in, that is also next to the tissington trail.

Have you looked at the site at Cheddleton Nr to Leek in the Staffordshire moorlands

This is a nice site with with good facilities ,Personally never stopped at it ,as i only live 10 mins away but its a great looking place,

The local pub is by the canalside and is about 4 mins walk away. There is a staem train station 3 mins walk away that is open at weekends,You can walk along the canal side to Consel and catch the steam train back to the site...

Its not in the peaks officially but its about on the doorstep 15 mins drive away and 30 -40 mins from alton towers.

In leek itself you have an abundance of restaurants, plus  a leasure centre with public swimming pool...

  worth a look

   Happy Camping
