OMG, call me niave...be we are trying to book this weekend and cannot find a campsite that is not all booked up for the bank holiday weekend.  Who knew camping was so big in the UK ( I am American!).  Any suggestions out there from you good people where we might try in either central, north or north wales...?

Who knew?

Like cheshirecraig says, shell island don't do bookings so if youre there soon enough you'll get on.  It's a bit basic though, otherwise look to the small sites without toilets etc. they should have space.

It will not be easy the weather doesn't help either ,good luck in your search. Have you looked on the camp site search ,some campsites don't take bookings and you just go and see if you can get a pitch (if you want to take the chance)but i'm sure if you look hard enough you will find a site.Try looking around gwynedd in wales there are loads of sites there.

I have just (half an hour ago) booked a pitch at Newlands Caravan Park just East of Stratford if that helps.

Seems to be that all the sites in the Official Tourist Board Publications are booked up but if you're prepared to 'rough it' slightly and look around on the web for those that aren't listed in the guides - then you're more likely to get a pitch.

Good luck!

I can see this as a problem that will only get worse.

The site I was on at Easter says they are fully booked for every  weekend until the end of the season and it wasn't exactly the best site I've been on - read my review.
