Please help. We are planning to visit my brother and his wife who live in Whitley Bay over the August Bank Holiday and stay on a local campsite up there. Unfortunately, when I look on the campsite search facility I cannot find anything for Whitley Bay. If you live in this area or have holidayed in that area could you PLEASE recommend a nice clean site. All we want is clean facilities (don't have to be that posh) and EHU and fairly reasonably priced.
Any help will be gratefully received.
Thank you, Paula.

i no there is a campsite in ashington not sure the name i think its sumthing wansbeck.depending on how close u want to b there is a nice reseaonable site near bamburgh called warren mill and the toilets and showers are allways lovley and clean.it also has ehu play parks, outdoor smll pool a pub which does food and a games room
I live near Whitley Bay. There are no sites there.
I would guess the best option would be a couple of sites at South Shields (south side of the Tyne). You can get from South Shields to Whitley Bay via the Tyne Tunnel (Ģ1.10 each way for a car) in about 20 minutes.
The site at Ashington is called "Wansbeck Riverside Park" they definitely allow tents, and is ran by the council, been once, quite cheap (for caravan i.e. Ģ12 ish)
I also have family in Whitley bay area so this has really helped me as well , I have made a note of all of them and will use one as a base to visit my aunt.
I was in south Shields today and went to the Sandhaven Site for a look round and was advised that they are trying to sell the Site (forwarning people for future reference). Apparently they are hoping to have buyers some time in the near future. I dont know wether that will make any difference to the site though but thought id let you know anyway.
Got to say how nice the site was. Very quiet for a Bank Holiday weekend. Very close to amenieties, lovely coffee shop on the sea front (Ice cream parlour actually) where we got 2 pots of tea, 2 coffees and an ice cream sundae with all the toppings and marshmallows for just over a fiver, was well impressed.

I was told this last September, but fortunately (in my opinion) it hasn't happened yet and they (the council) are still taking bookings for this year - I've just booked for beginning of July! They have said that they're still trying to sell it off, but I personally hope it doesn't happen, as although "it will have to remain as a caravan site", it doesn't mean to say that it can't be turned into a static van-only site.....

Thanks for that Gram. I didnt know it would have to remain a caravan park, I was thinking if developers bought it they might make it housing or sommat ? or maybe someone like park-resorts buy and then the charges will double/treble.
But yeah for anyone seeking a nice quiet site with plenty to do on the doorstep id certainly reccomend this site.
