Has any one been to this site near Hartlepool? I can't find any reviews. I like the look of the location, next to the beach but wondered what the surrounding area is like.

Hi I have not stayed at Crimdon Dene......Yet. But after hearing about all the improvements we had a look around the site one day last year, and we were impressed. There is a newly built club house (providing kids entertainment) and restaruant with lots for the kids to do, also an indoor pool. The outdoor kids play area wasn't too good, basically just a climbing frame, but the beach is ok. as for the surrounding area, it depends on what you want, obviously Hartlepool Marina is only a 5 minute drive away, with the Historic Quay, Cinema, Restaurants Pubs and Retail Park. Then there is also Seaton Carew with the beach and amusements. If you wanted to go further afield there is Beamish, Diggerland & Metrocentre not too far away.

I pass here every day on my way to work in Blackhall, I live in Hartlep[ool.  A lot of money has been spent, and the site is looking good, although it is mainly statics.  There is a children's farm just up the lane across the main road, which is great, with some really exotic species.  Metro centre is 40 mins away, and the Hartlepool Marina area is well worth a visit as Miss OxyDon has mentioned.

Thanks for your comments. I have been to the general area Hartlepool etc. before. I was meaning more the immediate area around the site, whether it is countryside or a built up area. looking at the Os map it looks like there are walks near the site and along the coast which looks ok. We are only going for a long weekend and want somewhere we can get walking and on the beach with the dog without getting in the car.

The site is right on a nice stretch of beach, and I'm sure there are walks nearby like Castle Eden and Elwick.  Where the site is situated it's not really a built up area but saying that I'm not sure if you can call it counrtyside either. Sorry if thats not much help to you but personally I dont really look for that type of thing myself (as I am unable to walk far) Hopefully someone else will be along soon who is a bit more helpfull

The coastal path starts just north of the site and runs for miles right along the coast, with cliffs, beaches, rocks, grassy sand dunes etc.  The site is right on the northern edge of Hartleppol and the southern edge of the former mining village of Blackhall Rocks.  There are some pathways round about, leading to Castle Eden Dene, which has a good visitor centre, or you can drive to the Visitor Centre in Peterlee, then walk in the Dene from that end. When you arrive at the turn off for the site, the pub, The Seagull, is closed and boarded up and looks a bit tatty and off putting, But the site and the rest of the area is fine.

Blimey that brought back memories. Crimdon Dene, we used to go there 45 yrs ago when they had tin huts to sleep in (at least I think they were tin). Mum was from Durham so that was our holiday. Lovely time as I recall when everyone was friendly.

I live in the area and enjoy walking the Hart to Haswell walkway can be accessed directly from the site and also the coastal path both provide good opportunities for walking.

Hi all, i think its nice that people have happy memories of a place.

During the years 1978 and 1980 my parents worked on the fairground at Crimdon.  We met lots of lovely people from the area, though sadly lost touch with them now.

We loved Sundays with the jazz bands and the train and all the people.  There was a pavilion there that sold food.

Where were the tin huts at Dawn?
