i see its not far to walk to the beach thats ideal for me with the kids and going to teignmouth on the ferry that operates.

thanks in advance.

Not stayed here, just driven past.

Wouldn't have thought you could walk to the beach from site. It's on the main road from Teignmouth to Torquay. Seem to recall a zoo opposite? or not far at least. Just looked at park map and there is a golf course opposite, so not opposite zoo, but am sure it's near by. But also can't see any way to access beach.

And the drive going into site is looked very steep. For example as you drive past the statics are sitting above you looking out to sea. Also dont' recall any shops in that part of the road???

Coast view used to belong to the same people who owned Dawlish Sands (all Static) don't know if it still does.

Just checked and Dawlish Sands has been taken over by Park Holidays.... so probably not joint ownership anymore.

We have stayed at Coast View Camping for the last three years.  We are a young family with two kids and have never had anything to complain about.    The site is on a large hill and it is hard work - but the views are breathtaking and well worth the effort.  The entertainment is on smaller scale - but they do a very good job of entertaining the kids.  Our children cannot wait to see Dippy Dinasour Again this year.

You can walk to the beach in Shaldon.   It is about a 20 minute walk, you do not need to walk on the main road.  You cross and go through the pitch and putt.  You can also drive down to Ness Beach and park up.  The beach is accessed through a 'smugglers tunnel' which the kids love.

There is also a great pub down in Shaldon - The Ferry Boat Inn where you can sit and have a drink and then take the kids on the beach.

We went twice last summer, once in July and Aug Bank holdiay, we book up to go once, and then once there decide we can manage another week later in the year.

I would advise rock pegs if camping as the ground is hard to get pegs in.

Teignmouth is reached by ferry  - which cost a few pounds and is very nice.  Once in Teignmouth there is an excellent park with water sprayers and lots for kids to do.

Also worth a look is nearby Dawlish Warren, there is a really nice beach and a small fair - very traditional seaside town.

Hope this helps - I have some great photos of the views if you want to see them.

There is something that keeps us going back year after year, despite being 3 1/2 hours drive from where we live.

Looking forward to this year too - enjoy your break

Kristie & Tristan

cheers swampmonster, i wonder if you can tell me if its a quiet site at night as the one we stayed at last year near paignton was horrendous near the play area, kids up playing around 10-11pm and people trying to get there young kids to sleep. had the same problem there a small club, never went to as we looked at it and thought we wouldnt bother, glad we didnt as every1 moaned about it and you had to get there very early to get a seat. i wonder how they will do now the smoking ban will be brought in b4 august as by law they cannot have smokers inside lol, just coming from a non smoker? it should mean that if any1 needs to puff there lungs out they go outside.

were a bit further away im told on the t field, they say its a bit flatter?

going across the pitch and putt with the family does anyone mind that people are accessing there land at all?

may'be see you there even. thanks in advance.

No help on the camp site but would recommend the area - we live in Torquay but spent most of the summers on Shaldon/Ness or Teignmouth beaches - 3 very different beaches but all lovely and interesting in even dull weather.  Shaldon perfect for catching crabs in the rockpools on an outgoing tide at the lighthouse end!

Coast View is a smaler campsite, as apposed to big  sites.   We have never had too much trouble with noise - we have a six year old and a four year old,  We were in the second ridge up with electric hook up pitch 54 (I think).  The bit just by the park was a bit more noisy, but everywhere you go there are always some parents who think its acceptable to leave the kids in the park and go to the club.  We couldnt hear that much noise - but it depends on who visits the site in the same week!

Im all for the smoking ban, being a non-smoking family - it will be nice to go out and not have to worry about stinking of someone elses stale fags.  Hope it doesnt mean lots of people hanging around outside.

The club is on a small scale, over the last couple of years in school holidays not been too busy - small entertainment for the kids with Dippy Dinasour.

If you are on the top ridge, it is quite a steep walk, but you can see right over to Teignmouth and although we havent stayed in the top bit, when we had a look it was quiet with space for kids to play etc -  but it is a quite a walk from the toilets etc...  - I do have a picture of the middle bit where we stay if you want.

As for the pitch and putt you only have to pass a little bit and nip accross, you then walk down a steep hill through wooded area.  One of the pics on our profile shows the walk and picnic area overlooking Shaldon/Teignmouth.

Hope this helps.

Tristan
