Hello, has anyone ever stayed at this site in Brixham? It looks really nice and just what we are looking for but i am a bit concerned that the owners have asked for no reviews to be published. Why would this be?
Don't forget to leave a review of the campsites you have visited this year or last!
I went to look at this site for reference while in the area as I wasn't sure whether Hillhead was still going to accept tents as it now belongs to the Caravan Club.
Firstly what puts me off with most of the sites in this part of Devon area is the roads - the map shows then as A roads but a lot of them are more like country lanes and windy. If I remember correctly this one as a very bad bend near a house which is was almost at right angles (if you get what I mean).
The site is a large field with housing around it, didn't look at the toilet/laundry facilites but there are some - I think for a shop etc they want you to use the village amenities. It looked well kept and clean, but not my cup of tea for 2 weeks. My nerves wouldn't stand the driving in and out of the site everyday.
So for me I'm staying put at Hillhead, roads are relatively quite and proper roads!, excellent facilities and even when full in main peak season doesn't seem rammed! Yes its dearer than most - but for 2 weeks I need some luxury.
Hillhead CC site is great and think you don't have to be a member to book but rather expensive. The roads are a problem all around Torquay area, always jammed!
------------- Come on if we leave now we can make it before it's dark. How many times have we heard that?
The hook up pitches are cramped but level. The rest of the camping pitches are on a very large but sloping field. It is quite pleasant though as there are no allocated pitches and you can take up as much room as you want to - especially nice if there are a group of people camping together in multiple tents.
The showers and toilets are grubby, in need of update and I never saw them being cleaned. In the gents only one of the three toilets ever had paper.
I wouldn't recommend anyone who is bothered about noise stay there during 2007. There is a construction site immediately next to the field, with very large earth moving vehicles operating within 50m of the site boundary from 7:30am. Furthermore the site owners don't do anything to curb noise from other campers so we were waken on two nights by partying at midnight and 2:00am.
Location is on a hill above Brixham at the end of some quite narrow lanes with a couple of tricky turns. St Mary's Bay is a great beach, dog friendly, and is just 0.5 mile from the site.
We stayed here last year when the building work wasn't as close as it sounds it is now, the shower block was grubby as stated, we were in a tent but I wouldnt fancy towing a caravan through the bends in the road to get there, also quite a steep hill I think. We too got the impression that the owners didn't really care too much about the place, there is also a larger butlins/haven holiday park type place just over the road, depending on your luck, this can wake you up too!
On the plus side, St Marys bay was very close and beautiful and you can walk into Brixham if you are fairly mobile.

I stayed at a lovely site not far from Brixham called Beverley Holiday Park. It is nearer to Paignton so well located for all of Torbay's towns. It is immaculate and the approach is OK if you take the A road. Coming up from the coast road it is very steep so make sure you don't go that way. There are lots of reviews on here.
Stayed at Upton Manor farm recently. I did a review on it so you could read that. Didn't hear the construction site from the top of electric hook ups but would not like to be sited opposite large commercial site across road . Their shop was useful though. Didn't seem to do much grass cutting but the weather had been very wet. Probably wouldn't go again, most sites I have been to are better. PamJ
