Hiya,

We have got a few days off next week so are trying to decide where to go for a few days. We have had quite a few chilled out, do nothing trips the last few times we have been away and so this time we feel like doing a bit of sightseeing and sampling a bit of our english heritage mine and hubby's culture tastebuds need a bit of stimulation. I quite fancy going to London and sampling some of the touristy spots in and around our capital but we also fancy touring Wales too so we are still pretty much undecided. Anyway, has anyone ever stopped on either of the 2 caravan club sites in London one is in Crystal Palace the other is called Abbey Wood and if so how did you find them. Were they near to train or bus stops for getting into the city and also were there any nice pubs/restaurants near by?

I look forward to hearing your comments both good or bad.

Sooh

We have only stayed at Abbey Wood and that was before it had a substantial upgrade. Its very handy for suburban train services, about a 5/10 minute walk aways. Abbey Wood is just a bit easier to get to as its nearer the M25.

Hi Sooh ....... we use Abbey Wood for trips to London ........ station is 5/10 mins walk from site, - right out of site - turn left at T junction ....... station at bottom of hill on right .... trains every 15 mins or so and less than 30mins into town

Have looked round Crystal Palace but not stayed there yet ..... mini bus station outside side - trains about 10mins walk in other direction lol .....

With both once on site you don't know you are in a city ....... facilities both spotless

Abbey Wood is well sign posted from M25 (once on A roads plenty of brown signs) ....... CP is easyish via South Circular

Hope that helps

Crystal palace has a bus stop right outside the site.  Bus takes you all the way into the City.  Cracking site.

Thanks all of you  just got to decide which of the 2 sites now as our main priority is good links into the city and both seem equally as good. Any tips on where to get genuine discounted tickets for Tussauds, Thames River Cruise, West End Theatre and London Eye?

short walk from turkey street on the mainline, takes you to tottenham hale or kings cross undergrounds. really enjoyed it.think if you have tesco vouchers you can pay for a sightseeing tour with thos and they chuck a 1hour cruise up thames for free.

we did he "eye" and my youngest (4) was most impressed by the changing of the guard

I live in Crystal Palace, and may use the site soon when my bathroom's being done, so I'll put a review on after that!

I can certainly promise that the thing that Crystal Palace has in abundance is good restaurants at reasonable prices, as well as some lovely cafes if you can't be doing with cooking your own breakfast/lunch.

Trains about 4 an hour each to London Bridge and Victoria, as well as to Tulse Hill which connects with the Thameslink line. Number 3 bus goes to Westminster, Piccadilly and Oxford Circus from virtually outside the campsite, takes about 45 minutes.

We have used Abbey Wood several times and will be back there for the Tour de France.

It is really handy for the train and if you pick up a leaflet there are quite a few 2 for 1 at various attractions in London so along with the CC vouchers and all the free things you can do there it is more a question of what to see first.

Have booked the Crystal Palace site so when we get back I will post a report on this page plus a review in the campsite search to let you know my findings. The Abbey Wood sounded really lovely but we felt Crystal Palace maybe was just a tad handier for the bus and trains and if we do decide to do a show the buses operate throughout the night to Crystal Palace but  not so sure about public trasnport to Abbey Wood.

Thanks everyone for all your suggestions and ideas.
