Yep you can easily get to Plymouth from there down the A38 where the National Marine Aquarium is situated at the Barbican. Fantastic place, I could sit and watch the fish there for hours, and often do! As you come back towards the A38 by I think it is Sainsburys, there is a Beefeater restaurant next to a travelodge. They have an off peak menu during the week that is very cheap, £7.95 for two courses, £5.95 for a single course if I remember correctly.
Kents Caverns in Torquay do a guided tour of the caves which we did last week and thoroughly enjoyed. Paignton Zoo and Living Coasts the latter of which is in Torquay harbour are also excellent places to visit, weather permitting.
I think you can also use the facilities at Finlake so worth looking at their website to see what they have by way of indoor pools etc, they are on the outskirts of Chudleigh.
