I have a sunncamp 1200 and booked a holiday with HAVEN in Weymouth, to find out that the pitch size is 6m by 6m. my tent is only 8m by 8m ish and i cant find a camp site to accomadate us as we want all the child facilities that Haven has to offer us.
does anyone else have this problem? If so what campsite with brilliant facilities will fit us in?
around the dorset area. Many thanks

can't promise you brilliant facilities, but we're staying at Herston Yards in swanage, which is lovely, it does have a bar at bank holiday weekends with entertauinment,a nd there isn't a swimming pool but swange beach is such that you could swim in it!
Did you tell Haven when you booked, your tent size? We have a larger size tent and i havent had a problem, i always ring them and tell them my tent size and they usually ring the site direct just to make sure they have space. I havent been to the Weymouth one, but i would ring them and check.
Hi yeah i told them the tent size but they assured me it would be ok.
However they have given me another pitch side by side now for free as it was their error on not checking. Thanks for the site in Swange. I think we might go there next time.
Cheers for replies. Just hope i can fit on length wise now. If not it will be a new tent for me as hardly any sites will take us.

As more and more families take to camping and buy the larger tents then sites are going to have to change. We have a Nebraska XXL which also has a 8m by 8m footprint. We only have a problem if we want electricity otherwise we can go in the overflow fields. If it helps there is a large tent thread on the top of this section.

Interesting. How do you propose sites get around this situation then? People still camp in 2-3 man tents, and ground is only a finite resource for the owners. If what you're proposing is one tariff per pitch, then those in smaller units will be disenchanted by increased pitch rates as there will be less pitches per site. For private sites the income from letting out "their back garden" is often all their income.

The family tents tend to be a base for the whole 7 10 14 day holiday so a block of revenue where the little tents tend more towards a day or two here & there. Although taking more room they are guaranteed more revenue in one go. However I agree that a slightly higher rate for a larger tent is fair but these conmen who say double dont get my business or more importantly my CASH.
We've done this debate before, the difference in tent pitch sizes in most cases bears little connection to the number of occupants or the length of the trip.
Spread domes don't (on the whole) give more usable space than a tunnel the domes are just much less efficient in their use of land.
So I think its manufacturers that need to change not sites (although their are some dodgy sites).
The increase of really good tunnels seems to be an indication that things are perhaps changing.
