Try Holmsley campsite. Its forestry commision - or whatever they call themselves these days!
It has a great play area - new loos and shower block this year, is right on the edge of the forest but within its boundaries. Also has a shop and take away
We've been to a few different places in the New Forest but before recommending it would be good if you could let us know what sort of thing you're looking for. We love Roundhill for open spaces and 'back to nature' - very basic facilities though. Holmsley resembled a refugee camp when our friends visited with everyone packed in. Sandy Balls (northern part of the forest) is great but more of a holiday village feel to the place.
Red Shoot near Linwood - our favourite place in the New Forest - shop, playground, pub next door - plenty of walking, and near to loads of places to visit if they get bored of just "camping". See reviews on the website.
We would like a family freindly site if possible (play area for kids preferably surrounded by pitches), toilets and showers. That's it really - everything else a bonus.
Many thanks to those who have replied so far.
