Walking, Chatsworth House, shopping, not too far away from Alton Towers, not too far from treak cliff cavern and the others at Castleton.

Also Buxton, you can fill your water bottles up for free with the natural spring water.  Also good caves in the area, Poole's cavern is pretty good but Speedwell very disappointing.  You go down lots of steps and then along by boat but if I remember correctly there was only one cavern at the end.

Chatsworth is fabulous, do go round the house and gardens and also go to their farm shop down the road.  Fantastic meat, barnsley lamb cutlets to die for and bacon is exquisite.

Ladybower reservoir has lots of walks, the road that goes round the reservoir where they tried out the bouncing bombs is shut at weekends if memory serves me.  Lots of walking shops but they aren't cheap and if it is raining there is an outlet shopping place in Rowsley I think it is near Chatsworth, Wind in the Willows.

Good drive over the snake pass to Glossop, also plenty of walks leading off of this road too.

Enjoy, we love the area.

Ali

You won't be far from Stanton Moor where you can see the nine ladies stone circle and Smedleys Folly.

For Quality food try Chatsworth Farm Shop if you're cooking for yourself.

Good local Hostelries are aplenty like the "Devonshire" in Beeley Village and the "Druid" at Birchover.
