I knew this price hype would happen. I just went to book Aldridge Hill. We go there every year. Last year i paid £8.20 a night, This year its £17.23. Total disgrace.

I sent them an email & they did reply but all i got was that they are refurbishing all sites over the next 3 years. This site has no facilities, thats why we like it. What are they going to do with it? If there is nothing to refurbish on the site how can the put up the price by 110%. its a shocker!!! Its on our doorstep so its ideal for kids & the dog & I can still commute to work. Lets all bombard their customer services inbox with daily emails or something!!!

Like yourself Aldridge Hill is our favourite Forest Site,however after being charged £2 a night each fir the dogs & trying to charge £5 night for a small trailer this year,we won't be visiting again.When I complained they said the increase was for the improved facilities,I pointed out that there were no facilities & was told to complain to the C&C club.

I fail to see where the reported £10m plus investement has been spent.

when i asked what had happened to the 'dog free' area they said it was because they were charging for dogs.

so we both lost out there :(

taking money from this year's campers for next year's facilities is wrong wrong wrong.

worse is the fact that, like other current customers,  i don't want the facilities they intend to provide.  People go to the forestry commission sites because they are minimal. .  (back to nature but with proper toilets and hot water  )

i suppose minimalist camping is less profitable

Funnily enough these sites work out cheaper now for us as there are just the two of us and we have a small campervan and get the age concessions with the C & CC but I think the fees are horrendous for young families and when I contacted the C & CC they told me to complain to Forest Holidays!!

Yes and the (deliberate) complexity of the pricing structure makes it hard to see the true cost easily.  I was looking at the Forest of Dean sites.  The basic High season charge of £11.40 per night (increasing to £12 on Fidays and Saturdays)  just covers 2 people per night,  Then ADD the Additional Pitch Fee of £3 per night unless you're a member of the C & CC, or pay a flat £12 for a Forest Experience card. Then if you want EHU or hardstanding, ADD £3 per night. Then if you have children ADD £2.30 per child per night (£2.40 for Fridays and Saturdays)   Then if you have dogs, ADD an £1 per night per dog (they seem to have forgotten to charge a bit more for Fridays and Saturdays!).  Then ADD £1.50 per night if you're only staying for 1 or 2 nights!  And whatever you do, don't have anyone come to visit you - if they do, ADD £1 per visitor per day and ADD £3 per day per visitor's car.  Oh, and as for the age concession, forget it in High season!

Wow it adds up for a whole week doesn't it?  We go to Roundhill every year for 3 or 4 nights and the price increase is annoying, especially as this site doesn't have new toilets etc.  However, we love the space and back to nature feel of this site and would rather pay to go here than pay the same (or even a bit less) for a tiny cramped pitch on a site with loads of facilities.

absolutely.. but they say the extra charges are for extra facilities and that is what they plan to install.. if the verderers let them.. see other threads on this subject.

nb: we are just a couple of oldies so it isn't so dear for us either but, as has been said.. the forest should be affordable for families too!
