Hi All

Just wondering if anyone has been to the "High Range" campsite at Aviemore recently.  Have checked the reviews and the last one posted was for a caravan in Oct 06.  We are booked up with the tent for End of June and just wondered if anyone out there has been recently with a tent and if so what did you think.

Oh and if anyone has been to the "Landmark" forest adventure place any feedback would be much appriecated.

thank you all

Hiya

Haven't stayed at that campsite - we stay at Glenmore foresty holiday site - bit downhill this year but hey ho.  Someone on Glenmore said the site in Aviemore is a bit grot - it is right in town - the site at Glenmore is next to Loch Morlich which has a beach - about five or six miles from Aviemore - you can see the Cairngorm mountain from there - we actually walked all the way from the site to the train that goes up the mountain - you can see the site from the top.  There's a dry ski slope for the kids and a shop and cafe.

We have also been to the Landmark forest theme park - my kids are 10 and 11 and loved it.  There are big slides you can go down and a rope course - my 11 year old did it really well - I wouldn't do it!!  There are trails round for red squirrels, a maze, nice cafes, shire horses doing demonstrations of wood cutting.  It's a good place to go.  We also went to the Highland Wildlife Park -this is a safari park - we got chased by a bison, there are also wolves, otter, reindeer, red deer etc.  You can get out and see things like the wild boar being fed, lynx and lots of other stuff - good cafe and shop.  We have also been to feed wild reindeer, again opposite the Glenmore site, and have been to see the osprey nest at Abernethy and have been fishing at Rothiemurchus.  It's a good area.

Have'nt stayed at Highrange,we go to Aviemore several times a year,we are keen walkers and Rothiemurchus is amazing..We stay at Rothiemurchus Camp and caravan park which is up the ski road about half a mile on the right past the Hilton. Not as big as Glenmore but the new toilet block is amazing and spotless.Camping is generally amongst the trees in small clearings etc,we just love it,last there 2 weeks ago.Landmark is a great day out we have taken the grandchildren and they loved it.There is loads to do all around the Aviemore area and if you like walking Rothiemurchus Estate suits all ages/levels of fitness etc..take your camera....regards

Yep I have been to Rothiemurchus as well - really nice with the woods as well.  Seem to remember the toilets being fine so now they must be really good!!  Have been to Glenmore twice though - I like the lake and the views and the kids love the dry ski slope!

He!!He!! yep...and Heggs is right only one official Lake in Scotland.I am sure you will enjoy Highrange,I think there is an Italian restaurant on your doorstep and if you like Indian food I can recommend the one just a bit further down the road...The best fish and chips bar none is Smiffies just across from Tescos on the main road...regards
