Hi all,

There is a sponsored bike ride round Lyme Park in aid of the NSPCC at the end of June and we would like to camp nearby.

It is a family event so my boyfriend and I will be taking his daughter who is six and an only child, for this reason we would ideally likea campsite with a play area but at the moment I am struggling to find a campsite full stop...never mind a child friendly one!

As you can probably gather we are relatively new to this ad have yet to buy any books or guides so if anyone can suggest a good guide to UK campsites that would also be very much appreciated.

Hope to hear from someone soon,

Blackpool Jewell. x

PS. If you would like to join in take a look at the Big Bike Ride section of the NSPCC's website - should be a fun day out

Buxton is only 20 minutes drive away.  There are a lot of sites round the Buxton area, use the Camp Site Search facility at the top to check them out.

Hi we love Lyme Park and only live about 20 minutes away.

I've found this site called Elm Beds Caravan & Camping Park, it just says Stockport on the address but it is actually in Higher Poynton.  There are no reviews or a web address on UK campsite page -

http://www.ukcampsite.co.uk/sites/details.asp?revid=5240

so I googled and found this site.  http://www.peaksandplains.co.uk/wheretostay/detail.asp?IdNo=21

It says it is walking distance from Lyme Park and might be worth a try.It looks nice from the picture but I don't have any idea what it's facilities are like. Poynton is a very nice area though.

I'd go and have a look for you but I am away myself the next 2 weekends and Poynton is in the opposite direction from Lyme Park to where I live.

Good luck with your sponsored bike ride.

Rachel

Hi Blackpool Jewel,

I went and had a look at Elms Beds Camp site for you.  It is quiet, small and quite basic.  Didn't have a look at the loos and showers.  It is right next to the canal down a very bumpy lane - you need good suspension! But it looked nice enough for a 1 night stay.  There were caravans and tents there.

We even tried out the pub for you !!  It is about 5 minutes wak away and did food.

You could walk into the grounds of Lyme Park but I think it would be a bit of a trek to the House.

Rachel

Hi Blackpool Jewel

We stayed at Elm Beds last year for one night for our first try at camping.

The site is basic but clean and the owners are very friendly. Toilet/Shower block only small but didn't have any problems with queues. Small park/play area just outiside the campsite (at the start of the track leading to the site) which my son enjoyed. Local pub only 5 mins walk away and looked like it did decent food. Not sure exactly how far Lyme Park is from the site but could be worth looking at. Cost approx £10 for one night's stay.

Good luck with the bike ride
