I have finally persuaded my OH to try camping this summer. I normally go with friends. What campsite in the New Forest would you recommend to a newbie that won't break the bank? I'm going to take him away for a weekend to try to get him to get the bug....
Thanks

the Caravan and Camping club have linked up with Forest Holidays and these sites are lovely with the ponies coming right into the pitch areas along with cattle and donkeys at times. You get a discount if you are a member of C & CC but you don't have to be a member to use the sites. Some have more facilities than others.
We have just returned from 5 fantastic days at 'Ashurst' in the New Forest - part of Forest Holidays. Weather was hot, site was great, toilets and showers brand new and spotless even when it got fully booked on Friday and Saturday.
------------- "Are we there yet"?????
I came, I saw, I bought!!!
I can highly recommend Hollands Wood which is a large campsite owned by the Forestry commission. We spent a week there during the May Half Term. Has 600 pitches which are spread out over a huge site, so finding a nice spot is not a problem. Good facilities, never busy which was a surprise for the size of the site. Very friendly staff and of course the delight of having the horses roaming through the campsite!
The forestry commission sites look good, but seem expensive - £52.70 for 3 nights in the summer. Is this normal for August? or is the New Forest just expensive?
Thanks again...

New forest is expensive but it depends on how many of you are going and if they charge for a pitch or per person. Work out if it would be cheaper to join the C & CC club first.
------------- Don't take your organs to heaven - heaven knows we need them down here. Join the NHS Organ Donor Register - someone did who saved my daughter's life.
Markos - Ponies a plenty! Ashurst is one of my favourite sites. Lots of shrubs and trees to give some privacy. Just the right mix of flat pitches/good facilities and nature/beauty.
------------- Those who do not see the point of camping are missing the point of life itself.

£17.57 a night, wouldn't say that is overley expensive for August and that area, you can get other commercial sites up around £25 a night.
