A nice little site, we really enjoyed the May Day weekend there. Easy to get to as well, just off the A1.

This site looks nice, Chewie. However, a couple of things - is there somewhere nearby to walk the dogs? Also, you mentioned in your review that the caravans were quite close together, and they do look it on the site photos. Do you get a choice of pitch?

Cheers, Lizzo

We didn't because we were a last minute booking and got the only pitch that was left. There were dog owners on site, (not us, we are cat people) and the area is rural so there must be walks in the vacinity.

The pitches are close though, but a nice area close to the Forest.

We spent a couple of days over half term at Sherwood Forest Caravan & Camping site, haven't got round to doing a review yet.

It's a big site, but the way it's divided up it felt like several small sites close together. I went with the two kids (and dog) and we had a lovely time, there are a couple of lovely dog walks there.

Each section of the site (and i think their website has a plan on line) has its own facilities and play area, some play areas being more adventurous than others. Although it was fairly busy while I was there, I didn't feel overwhelmed. My only complaint was that the showers on our part of the site didn't drain properly, so you tended to paddle through the remains of the shower from the person before you (and the person before them?). But the water was hot and free, and there was soap and hand dryers.

Went to sleep listening to the owls, woke up to the sound of peacocks, not sure where, think they are in the grounds of an adjoining "handsome house".

Only a short drive from Major Oak, and there was a good fish and chip eatery (eat in or out) only about 15 minutes away at Ollerton, where there was also a good sized Tesco

We paid £16 per night for up to 4 people, can't remember if there was a slight addition for the dog. I think outside school term time it's £11 per night during the week for up to 4. I thought it was pretty good value

Would be happy to go to this site again
