We spent a couple of days over half term at Sherwood Forest Caravan & Camping site, haven't got round to doing a review yet.
It's a big site, but the way it's divided up it felt like several small sites close together. I went with the two kids (and dog) and we had a lovely time, there are a couple of lovely dog walks there.
Each section of the site (and i think their website has a plan on line) has its own facilities and play area, some play areas being more adventurous than others. Although it was fairly busy while I was there, I didn't feel overwhelmed. My only complaint was that the showers on our part of the site didn't drain properly, so you tended to paddle through the remains of the shower from the person before you (and the person before them?). But the water was hot and free, and there was soap and hand dryers.
Went to sleep listening to the owls, woke up to the sound of peacocks, not sure where, think they are in the grounds of an adjoining "handsome house".
Only a short drive from Major Oak, and there was a good fish and chip eatery (eat in or out) only about 15 minutes away at Ollerton, where there was also a good sized Tesco
We paid £16 per night for up to 4 people, can't remember if there was a slight addition for the dog. I think outside school term time it's £11 per night during the week for up to 4. I thought it was pretty good value
Would be happy to go to this site again
