It was with mixed feelings that we sold our tourer yesterday - however, this was with the full intention of buying a static. So whats the problem I hear you say...
We can't decide between Thorpe Park at Cleethorpes and Skipsea Sands.
Thorpe Park unsurprisingly is very expensive but has superb facilities - however, you seem to struggle to find a decent caravan for less than 12k and the ground rent is being quoted as 3.5k
Skipsea Sands is a bit of an unknown to us - the reviews on this site are very mixed with focus being put on no security and rude and intimidating youths..However, this could have been a one off. The vans at Skipsea Sands seem cheaper and the ground rent is about £1k less than Thorpe Park.
We have three boys aged 10 and under so we are looking for the best of both worlds - somewhere for the kids to have fun and somewhere for Mum and Dad to chill.
Don't know about skipsea sands but if you're coming this way Patrington Haven is nice and chilled, and Sand le mere at Tunstall, at Patrington its more inland but there is a nice pool and very quiet! Both have fishing ponds Sand le mere only shuts for about 3 or 4 weeks of the year.

Best keep off the baked beans
We go to skipsea sands regularly and the owned static caravans are situated all over the site so it is worthwhile going through and seeing what is on offer and where they can be sited.
The site itself is kept very clean and tidy, all the facilities that you could wish for.
It can be a busy site especially in the summer months but a very relaxing one other times but still with plenty to keep the kids occupied.
There is a security issue in my opinion in the club on a night as it is virtually non existent, they are there but do not deal with anything with any committment.
We talk to alot of the people who own statics there and they seem a really friendley bunch with most of them being from south and west yorkshire.
we owned a static at skipsea for 7 years in that time we had no problems at all sold it in 2003 and got the folding camper, last year at thorp park in the folding camper had stuff stolen from around the pitch and my daughter was kicked and punched by other girls in the club house we wont go back to thorp park but we will go back to skipsea . the best advice i can give you is ride around lots of sites and talk to the van owners
Don't forget to leave a review of the campsites you have visited this year or last!
Why not phone each site and arrange a visit to speak with the management. Let them show you around the statics park and speak to some of the owners. Have a meal in the club or restaurant. Look at the facilities. Let you and the family get 'the feel' of the place. If you're going to spent a substantial sum of money it's got to be worth making the effort.

------------- Treat the earth well. It was not given to you by your parents. It was loaned to you by your children.
We have been to Skipsea twice now with our trailer tent. Both times at Bank Holidays, there is a lot for the kids to do albeit you may have to have deep pockets for amusements, bowling etc., Swimming pool is a goodsend if the weather is rubbish, we didn't encounter any problems with rude teenagers only a little loud at times but nothing to keep us awake at night. Hope you find a bargin.
indoor pool, clubhouse, play areas, sports court, market & car boot on sunday i am thinking off a seasonal pitch next year for my tourer, just trying to find a nice and fairly reasonably priced site.
