Can anyone recommend (I know the website is fantastic but want something I can take away and read as well) any good guide books on camping including lists of good sites/facilities in both the UK and beyond (separate books for this is fine) ???

Hiya

http://www.waterstones.com/waterstonesweb/displayProductDetails.do?sku=3479775

My Grandad bought a book simlar to this from WHSmiths, it listed every campsite around the UK, was really good. Had sites listed with telephone numbers etc and showed what facilities they had etc.

Hope that helps

Dan :)

AA did me very well, its good.

I now have the big sites guide that you get bundled in when you join C&CC though and that covers most of it plus more.

I have the C&CC Big Sites book as well.  We tried using our road atlas last year because it shows every campsite, but quickly gave it up as a bad idea.  We're a bit fussy and you never know what kind of site you will turn up at!

I've also hung onto a guide that was given away free with The Guardian a few weeks ago, and bought Cool Camping Scotland recently.  Both of these list small interesting sites that are considered worth a visit under various criteria (such as great views, interesting tents to hire, good places to visit nearby etc. etc.).  Cool Camping probably isn't good value for money.  Of about 30 sites it lists, I might visit 1 or 2, but it is a lovely bit of escapism on the train to work!

There's always Cades which has vouchers in the back to use at some sites.

I've got Cool Camping England, like Wobblydeb says, very inspirational but not necessarily great value for money, but I have picked out a few sites I'd like to visit from it

I love my Cool Camping books. I have the England and Wales versions.

The series Cool Camping goes beyond just giving a list of sites.  It waxes lyrical on all aspects of camping. Show it your friends if they think you are crazy sleeping in a field on a wet bank holiday weekend, and ask them where they would rather be!
