Depends what you like ! ! Byreside near Hamsterley isn't too far. Its a lovely friendly site on the derwent walk - facilities are clean but basic. details are here

Never been but there is a site called Bobby Shafto which is close to Beamish - see http://www.ukcampsite.co.uk/sites/reviews.asp?revid=3831

yes  that one is very close to Beamish  ,  its  down  a  side road  from shepherd and  shepherdess  pub about  1/4 mile from   Beamish museum entrance , ( nice sunday  lunch there !),  It  looks  in a  nice setting  i  havent seen  the  touring field   but have  visited  a   static there once , looks  ok  from  memory and a  lovely setting

Byreside is fine, about 20 minutes drive to Beamish and a lot cheaper than Bobby Shafto I should think, it was £9.50 with ehu when we were there at Easter.
