In my experience the Lakes are over-priced, noisy and very chav. I once stayed at a *lakeside* site and yes, it was lakeside if you walked half a mile. They sited us right next to a very busy main road and sleep was well nigh on impossible. 25 quid a night no less !!
Slingsby, near Malton is close to Eden Camp, Flamingo Land and the North Yorks Moors Railway. There is also a site nearby at Goathland, which is Aidensfield in the Heatbeat TV series.
I don't think the Lakes are noisy or chav! perhaps it depends where you go? I like Keswick, the C&CC site there is very nice but probably pricey in summer. There is one near Keswick, Castlerigg I think which seems to be highly rated.
