Accrington!! where is that...only joking, as you can see we are not far from you.

we have been to Red bank, if you do go there make sure you peg your tent down well as it can get quite breezy...but the views are worth it.

the best thing is to put a search on here..camp site search.and look at sites in Lancashire.Plus reading the reviews is very helpful.  good luck with your first camping trip.and welcome to UKCS.

Strangely, although you are literally on the doorstep of the Ribble Valley and Forest of Bowland AONB, there are very few camp sites in your area. The only two I personally know of are the Camping and Caravanning Club site in Clitheroe and a small farm site in Newton in Bowland, near to Slaidburn.

Hi Gill and Neil, we are in Accrington as well.  We've never stayed at the sites in Clitheroe as I don't feel like we are far enough away from home!  There is a nice site at Long Preston called Gallaber Park that we go to, only 45 mins from home.  Just head out past Clitheroe on the A49(?) and turn left after you've gone through Gisburn (sign posted Settle) and it's about 7 miles up that road.  Big pitches and fab toilet block.  Are you tent or caravan?  If caravan & you're a member of the caravan club I can recommend a few CL sites in the lakes/Chester/N Wales.

Well I'll be blowed, all these members near me and I never realised. We are in between Accrington and Gt. Arrod lol at Clayton-Le-Moors. As above I know there is one just down the road at Clitheroe and there's quite a few if you venture into Yorkshire. What about Morecombe/Blackpool way or Cumbria? I'm sure if you do a search on here you will find lots of sites not too far away.

Good luck.

Sue

Hi Shirl,

Just read your post and we would be interested in your recommended cl sites.

With 4 children larger sites can be expensive and we do like to get away each weekend [weather permitting].Next week we are trying GORLANDS at Longridge.

They have a private indoor pool which can be hired for £20 per hour, and an area for the children to play. If you know of anywhere that has some form of entertainment for young children on site or nearby that would be great.

Thanks

Dawn.

Hi Dawn, there's Layhead Farm at Settle which has hook-ups, a play area, football field and indoor games room (converted from one of the farm buildings) with pool table, various board games, books and DVDs that can be borrowed for free.

The following don't have any entertainment on site but are lovely sites:

Thornleigh Park Farm at Chester (I've put a review on the campsite search).  Close to Chester with all amenities.

Throstle Hall - Caldbeck, Lake District - again I've put a review on.

Bron derw Farm, LLanrwst nr Conwy

Croft Ends Farm - Appleby-in-Westmoreland

Let me know how you go on at Longridge - we usually go away with 2 or 3 other families so with around 8 kids between us the private pool sounds great.
