Its like anything they will charge what they can get away with - while people are daft enough to pay that amount they will continue charging it.

In a moment of madness we thought we would try Hobournes Cotswalds for the weekend.

Special offer for weekend breaks, Fri, Sat, and all Sunday, night as well, although we couldnt have stayed.

with a 15% discount it was still £99.00 which I thought was pretty steep, we wont be going there.

Tried a CS we saw last week, 5 van very small site with hardstanding. May be toilets/showers not sure, and they wanted £14.50 a night.

Seems to be going up at both ends of the scales

£14.50 for a field witha tap!!!!!

I do not use sites that have a fixed price that does not change all year.

I saw a nice site recently but the price was £15 per night, which to me is a high season price for its facilities.

Now there is no way I am going to pay £15 per night, off season, Monday to Friday when the site is almost empty and most other sites are a bit cheaper off season and keeping quite busy.

We do, but then again the charge for a pitch for two people one car is £9 all year (£15 with EHU)

I just wish they were all like my local site - just perfect, a flat fee per night dependant on time of year and you can pitch where you like, use what unit you like, they don't charge us for our pup tent, no extra charges for the kids or showers etc - I just phone up to confirm a pitch is available, they know me by name and are very relaxed "yes just turn up & pitch then come and find us to pay sometime before you leave!!!" ....just a shame we can't take that campsite with us around the country when we go on our hols - don't fancy 2-3 weeks just 8 miles up the road!! I wish more sites were like this...

Sounds like a great site bundys - might be great for a weekend for us.

What a great thread. Its nice to hear everyones stories.

I am one who does not like being ripped off but hjat does not mean to say that i wont pay the high prices if i think OVERALL i am getting value for money. I would rather pay an extra couple of quid and get great facilities and 'looked after'. I dare not tell you how much i have just agreed to pay for our summer 2 weeks but at the end of the day i have kids and if they have the opportunity to use the facilities it make our holiday much easier and so i see it as value, that said i cannot wait for another 4 years or so till we are back alone and can use the CS's.

On the price per pitch argument, if you had been in Cromer with us a few years ago you would see why sites are charging extra per pup tent etc. The pitch opposite us started in the afternoon with a caravan, awning with annexe at either side and pup tent. Through the evening they then pitched atleast 4 more tents on 'their pitch', when their guests arrived. This site charged by the pitch. When the people on either side got fed up of the overflow and went and complained to the site owner they were told if they did not like it they could pull off, i think thats what he said . As it was August bank holiday they could do nothing. This is what sometimes happens with a pitch price and perhaps that is why sites are now charging for windbreaks etc as people just spread accross wherever they want. My answer would be to charge per pitch for 4 (average family) but to have that pitch clearly marked with some form of marker and then people can use as they require. Charge extra for more users as the site owners have explained why thair is a charge.

I am in no way defending these ludicrous prices as you will see from the How much!!!! - UK Camp Site Messages' thread i started, just stating a few thoughts that decide how we book our holidays. I do an awful lot of reasearch before i part with my very hard earned lol.

My mum camps every year in the New Forest on one of the Forest Holidays sites.  Last year her and my Grandma took my autistic cousin with them, intending him to sleep in a pup tent.  They wanted to charge for 2 pitches, for a tiny tent so in the end they bought an awning for the caravan and nearly covered the cost in what they saved on site fees.

I know there is a fire risk policy with regards to distance between units but, due to the nature of the site, the neighbouring greenery meant that you conuld only fit 1 caravan in the pitch area anyway but would have been fine for 1 pup tent and the caravan with the required distance.  There seems no logic to this as the site only accepts units with loos (there are no loos or showers) so they would be very unlikey to have rented out the space to anyone else anyway as I don't imagine there are many campers with tiny tents who also cart around a loo and washing facilities.  As it was they made less money as she would happily paid extra for the pup tent,  just not a separate pitch, and the awning on the caravan took up twice as much space as the pup tent.
