only a little while before i brave 2 weeks of camping with my 2 lads (5 & 9yrs) at twitchen park near mortehoe

is there anything that is a MUST to do here or close by????

i am looking for ideas about ANYTHING that is really good, from a beach to go to, pub to eat/drink at (would need to cater for kids), place to visit, etc, etc.

i have picked up on watermans castle from reviews of the campsite i am staying at (although website did not make it look very interesting)

all suggestions welcome

we stayed at woolacombe bay holiday park last year, as much as i would not recommend the campsite the area itself is lovely. We went to Bude for the day that was worth a day out great beaches! The Red Barn in Woolacombe does great food. Arlington Court is a nice day out too its a national trust house and gardens but they always have differnt activites on there for kids when we were there they were doing circus tricks. Dont do the aquarium at Ilfracombe that was a total waste of money went round it in ten mins!

There are alot of different theme parks around the area but we didnt do any but the campsites have plenty of leaflets on different days out.

Hope you enjoy!

what about a day on the Tarka Trail cycling?

You can hire bikes at Braunton, the trail is lovely - all off road and safe and follows the river from inland to the sea.

There's theme parks near by - The Big Sheep and also The Milky Way.  Also a dinasaur theme park in Coombe martin.

Lots of other things to do - bodyboarding/surfing at Woolacombe/Croyde.  Horseriding (you can even ride on the beach), golfing (pitch and putt), day out on a fishing boat, trip to lundy island.  Day out at Clovelly (picturesque seaside village)

The Big Sheep near Bideford is brilliant and there's one of those outlet shopping places down the road as well to keep the OH happy..

Exmoor Zoo is the best ever, very educational and they let you get touchy feely with all sorts of animals. One of the main keeper's (bloke with a slightly deformed hand) has a wiked sense of humour... great bloke.

They even have a scheme where you can be a "zoo keeper for a day"

http://www.watermouthcastle.com/  Great place for a day out

If you boys are into clubs then Twitchen has the usual kids clubs.

A trip on the Venecular Railway at Lynmouth is good & if you get the weather Woolacombe has a great beach.

Places to eat - Red Barn at Woolacombe, Fortesque Arms at the end of the Road, Bistro at Twitchen & on the road to Ilfracombe there another pub but the name escapes me at the moment.

Have a great holiday

Watermouth Castle is great fun, you pay on entry and then get unlimited rides, we have been several times and went last week with our 8 and 3 year old, a good time was had by all!

We were at Warcombe Farm last year.  The place our two 10 year olds enjoyed the most was Combe Martin Dinosaur Park.  There was lots to do and see and the entry was really reasonable - I think we paid just over £30 for the 4 of us for the day.

Tunnels Beach in Ilfracombe was great too.  It's a small enclosed beach which I think is either owned privately or by the national trust.  You have to pay to go through the tunnels to the beach but it's great as it's quite small and has a bathing pool when the tide goes out.

have a great time, we loved North Devon.

Both Crealy parks are a long way from here though, ( South Devon and Cornwall) although I agree both are excellent!
