Hi. If I go to a site that allows an open fire, am I suppose to carry a steel tray of some sort, to avoid damage or do they still have fixed fire locations.

Yeah I love a campfire, not many sites allow them now though.

So I really really want a fire pit, but they are a bit pricey (heavy too). They double up as a BBQ too and also for safety they have spark guards for when you are having a proper fire in it, so no damage to nearby tents by wayward sparks.

Hello Rex & Dan, & Ayup me'duck, from the Notts quarter. I hadn't heard of a fire pit, thought they were just barbie's but looks like a good idea. As you say Dan, a tad on the expensive side. The size of them might be a problem also, but in order to see what a fire pit was, I googled, & spotted this.  www.pit2go.com  a sort of folding job.

Being an ex fabricator with all the gear, it gives me an idea for another wee project that I will probably never get around to.  Still like the weather, we can but live in hope !

 there is a really nice site in burton flemming (east yorks... close to filey, brid ect) called mere farm (sp?) they hire out chimineas and fire pits and sell fuel very cheaply, he also has a 'breakfast shack' he opens up at the weekends and i believe he also know has a liquer license and has a 'beer garden' too, its a kinda tumble down farm site with chickens and guinnea fowl running around, in a quaint village very handy for lots of seaside resort (by car), downside when he is busy the .... campers to shower/toilet ratio is very poor and there are often queues and he does tend to 'pack em in' but if its not too busy, its great  search on here will find it!

Hi, I think they would still expect you to use some sort of tin tray, although there is a brilliant campsite local to us in Swaledale that has pitches on the river side. They allow you to have open fires where you want. It`s very atmospheric on an evening with all the fires going! Can`t be beaten!
