Hi, we're from Scotland and are camping in (northern part of) Norfolk this year.  We just wondered if you've got midges down there too?

Thanks

eat brown bread - your sweat will contain enymes from the wheatgerm which will keep most bugs off, I'm a baker & always eat my crusts & rarely get bitten ( tho I've never put myself up against the fearsome highland midge)

This might help. They do say we will have more this year because of the weather. Because of the broads we do get more mozzies than midges here although away from the broads I've never had a problem and have lived here for 3 1/2 years now.

Mmmmm - they recomend garlic & I eat a lot of garlic so maybe its not the brown bread at all. Even the flys think I stink.

Actually it is not the lochs that attract the Midges but the banks of lochs and rivers (and Broads) that are their natural breeding grounds. Marshy, muddy ground with still water is usually hoching with them. Once out into the lochs on a boat and you will rarely see a Midge far less get bitten by one.

No we don't get midgies as such, but there are alot of biting insects about at the moment, probably due to the damp weather!!

I have been bitten alot recently, night time is the worst as I like to have the bedroom windows open. I have been woken a couple of time by buzzing noises, and judging by the state of the bites, its mozzies!!!!

Thanks for all your replies. Bit scarey about the mosquitos!!  We're going to Kelling Heath this summer and I was wondering whether to buy one of these Clearlite lamps which there was a thread about on this site and thought sounded great. Ultimately do you think it'd be advisable to take one or not?
