My labrador knows the difference between doggie poo and fox's poo - he rolls in it normally!!!!  Wish they did have owners to pick it up!

I'm beginning to wonder if I inhabit the same planet as the rest of you on here! (Mine's Planet Earth, by the way). We have been camping and caravanning for 22 years, across the UK and Europe, and in all that time, have never, ever, encountered the sorts of situation mentioned on here. Either we have been incredibly lucky, or some of you are extraordinarily unfortunate.

In the UK, we mostly use club sites (C&CC for preference, CC as second choice), although when the children were still at home, we did use commercial sites more extensively. In Europe, we have used everything from small municipals to large 4* complexes. Wherever we have been, we have found nothing worse in sanitary facilities than the inevitable muddy footprints. Almost without exception, dog owners have been meticulous about cleaning up after their animals.

I don't doubt that every one of the horror stories on here is true. But I do doubt if such irresponsible behaviour is common. Certainly, if you saw something like that, it would make a deep and lasting impression, but to let it put you off enjoying a wonderful hobby would be a great shame. I'm sure sooner or later, I shall be unlucky enough to come across something similar, but I hope I shall be able to treat it as what I am sure it is, a dreadful exception to the usual rule.

CAn I ask why people seem to need to colour their hair whilst on holida camping. We are relatively new to camping having only been away 3times but on each occasion the sinks in the ladies loos have been had the remains of hair colours (I mean not just the Dye but boxes, instructions, gloves etc............)

As most people only camp for a few nights (two weeks max) can these people not do it before they leave or is it they don't want the mess at home and are happy for someone else to clean it up???

Chrissie7 you`ve said something that me and my OH noticed a while ago.             We are CC members and their sites we have used are far and away kept cleaner by the people that use them than some commercial sites.

I don`t know why.

I think what Silverwood is saying is that this kind of behaviour isn't limited to campsites.

My wife used to work for C & A when it existed in the UK and she used to dread being rostered to work on the fitting rooms. She could write a book about what was left behind in these places principally by the female of the species and their kids although men weren't entirely without blame.

Goodness knows what kind of upbringing the people who do this have had but it certainly isn't in line with anything I was taught.

We've all had a good moan but no-one has mentioned about the poor sod who has to clear it up and i domt mean doing the bowl with a brush

Yes you do wonder what other campers homes must look like dont you

Perhaps they are quite happy to use loo's blocked up with half a toilet roll or even worse left soiled.

Perhaps their back gardens are covered in dog mess

Perhaps they really do live in Chav city

But it's not just limited to campsites....

Where I work blokes leave the shower block drying area swimming in water, yet there are squidgy tools available to clean up any mess. The kitchen area has a sink full of plates and cups lying in dirty water, we have cleaners, so it seems that the general thought process is "It's their job let em get on with it"

Gosh, this is bone of contention isn't it!

We have a dog, who is only a year old, and still in the "adolescent" phase. He is always tethered, and kept on a lead. We always pick up our pooh. We went to a site in Wales and it was the site owners dogs who were crapping everywhere! Thery were roaming around the site and even pood right ourside the door of our tent! Charming!

I think some people let their standards slip as well. We witnessed a woman eating a sandwich with one hand whilst changing a rather pooey nappy with the other. Although it was impressive that she managed this single handed, it was also gross!

The owners of our site are extremely strict about dogs. After a few publicised attacks last year, they banned certain types, and everyone is told in no uncertain terms that dogs are to be exercised offsite (unfortunately on a busy road). 

A few people have chanced to take them up the tent field and anyone caught gets a sharp telling-off.
