Hi craignheznboys and welcome to UKCS a most addictive website. Not been there ourselves, do not worry this is posted in the wrong section and the admins will move it in due course. I am sure someone will be along shortly who can help. Happy camping and welcome.
Yeah its a nice site we have just been for our holidays a week ago but there having real problems with water run off at the minute, most of the bottom half of the site is constantly boggy so ask for the top, 126 127 and 128 are good spots plus there super pitchs which you will need for a monty 12.
Morrisons is just around the corner and the onsite entertainment is good, as is the onsite burgerking.
Our 2 year old love the pools and indoor fun area.
When we left there were a lot of people arriving you may find it hard getting a spot
------------- Its not the size of the tent...its how you pitch it..
Hi, hubby is leaving BD today. Apparently there have been more tents than caravans there this week (hardy lot aren't we?!) but it is very, very boggy as has been said. Because of the flooding a couple of weeks back, the ground is so saturated that as soon as it rains its waterlogged. Hubby had to get towed off by a tractor as the car sank in the mud on Sunday! Bottom half is boggier but more sheltered, wind can get up there but if your tent is solid then won't be much of a problem. We prefer the bottom because its less open. We camp in the hedgehog's back garden!
For kids, the site is great, ours love it which is the only reason we go. Drinks in entertainement complex are really expensive, which is typical of all haven sites. Last year we had problems with drunk teenagers twice in three days, this year no reports so looks like they've tightened things up on group bookings.
Entertainment is great for children and teenagers. Cleanliness of site wasn't too bad considering the weather.
Indoor pool was packed with very few changing and locker facilities.
We stayed in like an overflow type field with a fair trek through very muddy/dark woodland to the loos.
Out position was a free for all - park on top of your neighbour, literally if you like (the people next to us their bedroom pod was right next to ours - fire risk)
Very few people in our field complied with the 12midnight curfew to the point of loud parties and flash photography at 1am)
Staff couldn't give too hoots when you had a problem.
All in all facilities are central and are good but you need to take the rough with the smooth. My kids loved it and at the end of the day that was the main thing.
I dont think the prices for drink at the entertainment complex are too bad as we went to flamingoland for the last 3 years and the prices there are some of the highest ive ever seen which made the blue dolphin seem almost cheap by comparison.
Also a tip to those that hate overflow fields pay for electrics even if you dont have them as you always get a better spot and overflows dont normally have electrics..also BD seemed very good for being quiet at night and the posters up everywhere said any noise after 11.00 will result in you being ejected from the site..

Hi, we went to BD 2 weeks ago, for 2 nights. We had a basic tent pitch, and were on the o/f site, weather was bad that weekend (surprise!) and it was sooo boggy. Our 4yr old loved it, entertainment is great for kids, and there is loads to do even if the weather is bad. BD is centrally located for Bridlington, Scarborough and Whitby. Check out our review which is more detailed. We are going back last week in Aug for 5 days, but next time with EHU.
I don't know what it is like now, but I went to Blue Dolphin a few years ago (about 4 years ago). Admittedly we stayed in one of the statics, but I thought the place was the worst of British holiday making from the 60s or 70s. The place was run down and filthy. The pool was closed down for inspections after we complained to Scarborough health authority about the state of it. The van just across the way from us had a blocked pipe for the toilet and there was a 3 foot pile of sh*t stacked around it on the outside in full view. Our van had bread crumbs and other foodstuff under all the furniture and it stank of cigarettes smoke despite being told it was non smoking van. The sheets they provided were so filthy we went to a shop and bought some.
The kids entertainment was dire. The pub/entertainment centre was filthy and you could actually feel yourself sticking to the carpet. I know kids don't notice this stuff and therefore parents put up with it, but ask yourselves, why should we? Making the place clean and presentable doesn't reduce the kids enjoyment but it does make the whole thing more bearable for the parents. I wouldn't have my home like that so why should I pay for someone to provide me with accomodation like that.
I remember feeling so depressed when I was there and thinking "is this what the british public are expected to put up when having holidays with their kids?"
I for one would never put a foot on the place again. My only previous experience of this type of place before that was Ruda in Devon, so I knew there was no need for it to be like that. We complained whilst on site and they moved us to another van but that wasn't much better. We wrote and complained on our return and they sent us a voucher for another free holiday there. I think not!!!
Just my experience then though, it may be a lot better now.

hi folks just back from blue dolphin, thnx for all the great advice, like most of you said entertainment was great for the kids, we were also lucky with the weather nice n sunny all week although toilet/ shower blocks could have been a bit better.
Just come back from BD yesterday (was not due to leave until this Friday !!!)....
My advice is DONT GO.
The portloo's/Showers are still there, uncleaned, vandalised etc
The toilets/Showers were disgusting, there was an open manhole with 8ft drop (which once reported they simply placed an old palet and raod cone over it !!) I could go on, but I would be here all night..... we had a quick look at the Primrose Hill site just down the road and it was simply in a different league... even the staff here refered to the blue dolphin as 'Havens Retro Site' !!!
