thank you all so much for your replies....I have gathered a lot of info, and so glad I have found this site! Bit worried about the wellies though!! I may get put off for life on my first attempt...!
Hope Calloose is good as I couldn't get anything next to the sea that didn't require a week or a fortnight, maybe next year if I enjoy camping though.
Wellies are a good stand-by. Especially given the current weather situation. When camping it is best to plan for wet and cold and all types in between. Even on warm summer hols you can get a heavy dew in the morning that can soak your feet and trews, AND you do get cold sitting out under the stars - so pack lots of layers and make sure you and your family use them. Once you get cold in the evening it is very difficult to warm up again. This may begin to sound like not a lot of fun, but once you have been camping you will see why it makes sense - it it just about taking a few sensible steps to ensure you are comfortable and your hol is not spoiled!
I do hope you enjoy your first trip - just remember to take a bottle opener and your sense of humour. And tell us how it all goes too!
