Hello we are new to this site and to the idea of camping!  Been busy buying all the gear - and could now do with suggestions for a good site for our first expedition.  We are looking for a child friendly site with good amenities.  Perhaps a small playground.  Good walks.  Nearby pub/eating place.  Friendly / helpful site to assist if we come unstuck!!!  We are in the North West - but are happy to travel to a site thats worth it.  Any suggetions - whats your favourite site and why?  All suggestions greatly received.

Cheers Baz, Emma and Ollie (aged 2).

Wherever you go, when you ring them ask them about the state of their pitches. With all the rain and bad weather, it would be a shame for you to end up in a mud bath and possibly be put off of future trips, for the children also.

On a good note it looks like the weather is warming up a little for the next few days down here.

we have just been to Callow Top camp site just outside of Ashbourne, it has 2 (count em) 2 bars, a heated outdoor swimming pool, a children's play area, 3 toilet blocks and takes large tents with no hassle - we have a vango diablo 900 and there was no problem. I have to admit though that if you want a bit of space request field 6 when booking - all will come clear when you get there. As for walks there is the Tissington trail, which i have to say is brilliant. if you look up this campsite through this site you will get all the relevant details.

good luck
