We're off to the Lakes next week, Nr Ambleside (Great Langdale) and wondering if any of you could recommend any more sites suitable for kids, 9-year old and 6 month old baby. Especially large family-sized showering rooms and play area for the oldest. Thanks everyone! Ruth

Try Stanwix - they have family bathrooms - good site but too expensive for us at this time of the year!! We went to Spring Lea last week and absolutely loved it!

Hi forget Stanwix its a commercial holiday park on the outskirts of the Lakes (Closer toCarlisle than the Lakes). Most sites are now geared up for families with young children & babies, you could try Limefitt park at Troutbeck. I don't think that your baby will be too bothered where you camp and as for your nine year old, as long as your out & about and have an adventure I'm sure he/she will be happy to be anywhere. I say this as i spent many a camping holiday in the lakes as a kid (sometimes under protest) but loved every holiday so much i eventually made my home here.

Don't know whether your camping or caravan but there's an excellent site at Ulverston a short drive into the lakes "Bardsea" it has excellent heated family bathrooms, but the tent area is very close to a main road.

Just realised that you must be camping if you was going the stay on the NT site at Great Langdale. Another site worth thinking about is Low Wray its another NT site but very close to Ambleside and also has a lake frontage.

I believe the camping area at Limefitt has been vastly reduced to make way for more log cabins. Lovely site though. Use the toilet facilities nearer to the tourers as they are less busy . We are off to Stanwix this year just to try a different part of the lakes. Hope its not too much of a commercial holiday park!!

Hi Jen my comments about stanwix my have sounded a little harsh, we have been & had a excellent time but its not the lakes, the coastline and Silloth area is beautiful. I'm sure you can appreciate that Stanwix can get busy and at times resembles a Haven park (a little noisy at chucking out time)
