Thinking of taking my 2 girls 17 and 7 on our first solo few days camping. Last week in August 28th - 30th/31st and wanted to go to an area never been (live Stratford upon avon) Think Devon, Dorset will be pretty much full, but how about Kent? Does anyone have any recommendations for sites? Only time I've ever been to Kent has been when heading for channel tunnel !!!

Hello Louise, Kent is pretty busy all thro kids hol period. You'd best get on the campsite search facility and start ringing round now. Would have thought with girls you'll be looking towards the larger type site with entertainment and pool etc. Close to Margate there is Two Chimneys, Dymchurch there is New Beach and New Romney there is Marlie Farm. There is a host of sites on the Isle of Sheppey all listed in the search on this site with reviews from members. Many many more smaller sites, wish you luck and if all else fails try Sutton Vale near Deal they'll probably squeeze you in. Use M40 to M25 then for south Kent M20 to J10 or all the way to Dover for east Kent. Use M2 for Sheppey Ramsgate Margate area..Mick

We just come home today from a lovely little site on the Kent/Sussex border.Norwood Farm close to some lovely beaches, very clean, lovely showers.not to big just a nice family site.Or there is a couple here in Ramsgate.Manston and Nethercourt park. Two chimneys i myself wouldnt recomend it is loud and rowdy just a great big square field.Norwood farm is only a short ride from Dymchurch.I warn you not to go near camber the traffic was hell on earth today. We passed through yesterday on the way to Battle and you could not park anywhere.Norwood Farm have spaces.A lot packed up today.Try it you wont be dissapointed.Margie.

We were at Norwood Farm, Newchurch, New Romney the week before last and it is lovely there - we've been there three times now, so we agree with paul and margie. It is a small flat site surrounded by sheep fields. The toilets/showers are modern and clean and in the washing up room there are fridges and freezers which makes life a lot easier. They also provide washing up liquid. Close by and worth a visit are Rye, Hythe, Hastings, The Romney, Hythe and Dymchurch railway. There is a small funfair at Dymchurch which is not too expensive. The churches around Romney Marsh are amazing. Dungeness is also quite interesting with it's railway carriage homes and lighthouses.

Another lovely site in Kent is Tanner Farm in Marden (but a bit more expensive and not as near to the coast as Norwood)

Hello

We've just come back from a week's camping with our three children (12, 10 and 8) and my two cousins (13 and 15) at Nethercourt Touring Park in Ramsgate.  The campsite is lovely, the managers are very easygoing, but it is quiet after 10.30 to 11.00 pm.  There is no clubhouse, but there is a little shop with the bare essentials, a room with one pool table and another with one TV in.  Showers and loos are clean.  Also, there is a play are right next to the campsite.  We did walk to the beach from the site, but it's a bit far (about 1/2 hour).

I was also very surprised at how nice Ramsgate beach is.  I live in Kent, but had always thought Ramsgate beach wouldn't be very nice.  I was completely wrong.  In fact, I am now going to go to Ramsgate when I go out for the day.

I can't recommend Nethercourt highly enough.

You could try Yew Tree Farm which is just outside Canterbury. Very nice, quiet site which even has an outdoor pool.

Thanks all! Would be looking for a quiet site, so long as it has loos and possibly showers. Have emailed and got reply from Palace Farm Hostel (and camping!) Faversham, very quiet and new showers and loos - looks quite good but no one has reviewed it yet - or perhaps not stayed there yet! Just got to decide if I want to treck down to kent - almost 3 hrs - for 3 or 4 nights.

Like you , we prefer a quiet site & found an excellent one near Canterbury . It has a swimming pool but no clubhouse & when we have been the other campers have respected each others privacy .We are going again this weekend

Its called Yew Tree Farm , & is on the site search on here.

We have never been to the listening ears (have seen them on telly - but didn't realise they were at Dungeness). Found this link - so we will definitely take a visit there next time we are at Romney.

The main "listening ears" or mirrors are near Dungeness, but you cannot get to them now as they are surrounded by water and there is a revolving bridge type thing which is locked, you can only get over it, when you go on guided walks. The big mirrors are now protected as there was quite a lot vandalism etc.

Mat.
