Hi. I have a Cabanon Aruba frame tent. I would like to put it on a summer seasonal pitch in East Anglia but have a concern about the tents ability to withstand a british summer. I bought the Cabanon as I wanted something sturdy and a step up from a 'leisure' tent.

Has anyone out there got any experience of a Cabanon frame tent exposed to the elements for a summer season?

Hoping someone can advise.

Tina

Don't forget that the weather adds wear and tear to the tent.  On average a tent is probably on out in the weather for 6 - 8 weeks per year - which is why they last so long.  I am pretty sure the salesman did say they should not be left up all season.

If you had a caravan on a seasonal pitch you have to take down the awning when you are not using the caravan.

Perhaps if you look at the sites that have tents set up for you for a start point.

Good luck.

We have a motorhome now - and I do not miss having to put the tent up etc when we finally get to the site.

Regards

There seem to be more and more sites which have 'permanent' frame tents now,for people to use rather than bringing your own tent.

So on that basis, I would have thought if it was properly secured it should stand up to the weather.

Have just been away in mine (Athena) for 1 day short of 3 weeks at 2 different sites.

It stood up well to some horrendous weather.  One bad spell of severe gales and torrential rain which lasted for about a 15 hour period over night. I was fine and dry inside. There was abit of creaking as it stood up to the gales but I was fine inside. When there was a lull (15hrs later) I was able to check the outside. I had a few loose pegs (very soft ground) on the side of the tent that had taken the brunt of the wind. A few guy ropes had slackend but only slightly. My main concern would be if a storm like this hits when you are not on site. If the tent isnt repegged and guys checked and you get more bad weather, you can expect damage to a tent. Even in good weather pegs and guy ropes should be checked every few days.  It is when there ia weakness in the way the tent is erected that problems can occur and the worst damage sustained. Perhaps look at getting some Delta pegs. Not got any myself yet but intend to one day.

If you can find a site willing to maintain your pitch including your tent (and you know for certain that they will) then it sounds a great idea. Euro tents are left erected all season on some UK sites so it can be done.

The only other thing to consider is that on the whole the general wear and tear on the tent will be more, the more you use it or leave it up.  Expect long grass around the edges where the mower cannot get!!!

Incidently, when I was awy there was a faded lookin dome tent in the corner of the fireld with very long grass around the edges. Apparently it had been there almost a year whilst the occupiers look for a house to buy in the area.

If you find somewhere to do it, please let us know how you get on.
