Hi,

I'm looking to book a campsite near swanage for August and found Herston Yards. I like the fact that you can have a campfire and catch the steam train to Swanage, but I have read a lot of negative reviews from 2005/6.

Has anyone been recently as the website is stating that there have been many improvements for 2007.

Thanks....

just got back from herston ,we also went there last year .i haven,t read the negative reports about this camp site but if if you are looking for a 5 star site then this is not the place to go,if, on the other hand you just need a base for days out then ,for the price this is ideal.if you have children then again not a good site as they have no swimming pool or any real children activities.we used it again this year because 1,price.....2,perfect base for days out ,ie studland beach ,corfe castle, steam train ,5 mins from swanage shops.as chrisnirene pointed out ulwell is a better site with pool but at a cost.hope this helps...............

Hi yes we visited last weekend. Basically as a tent camper, you just get to pitch up in any space you find in a field. The grass is long and people VERY close together. We also slept with our head very close to next doors car (not through choice you understand), not great when in the middle of night he decided to drive off to the toilets. The amenities were awful, damp, dirty, dimmly lit. The wheelie bins over flowing and full of flies. We've camped at Festivals so not easily shocked but def one to miss in our opinion.

Thanks All.... I think we will give it a miss. However it's hard to find anywhere to book this close to the Bank holiday.

Thanks Dave
