We are thinking about booking Rudding Holiday Park in Harrogate, for end of September. There arent that many recent reviews for people that have taken tents, so thought I would ask if anyone else has been who has'nt posted a review. Is this park ok? Wanted somewhere within a couple of  miles of a town, and it seems to be only a couple of miles from harrogate. Its years since Ive been to Harrogate so not really sure what its like now. They have a 'superpitch', are these worth the extra money, or do you think its jsut as good having a normall hook up pitch? Would be greatful for any help with this park. Would the outdor pool still be open in September, or would it be closed by then? Thanks.

Was there last year and I think that the pool should be open in September.

There is a pub on site that does meals and the place is quite nice. There is a large Sainsburys store within a 5 minute drive and it takes about 15 minutes to drive into Harrogate (depending on traffic)

Its a pretty good family site.

I live not far from Rudding Park and the site itself is quite large. Pitches are very nice, with many secluded with the many hedges around the site.
All pitches are EHU, so expensive in peak season if you don't need it!!! £25 per night peak.
Pub is fine, and meals are OK. It's right next to the pool (which is quite small). There is a new play area next to pub for younger children.
Nice little pub down the road which does food and has decent beer. Can't remember name, but it is sign posted from main road into Harrogate.
Harrogate is OK for shopping, and it has Betty's tea rooms, which attracts the tourists, but to locals like me, I just think it's expensive for what you get!!
Knaresborough is well worth a visit with great views from Castle, boats on the river, and of course, Mother Shiptons. Great little proper ice cream shop with a large range of flavours!! Strawberry Cheesecake flavour my favourite!!

What a coincidence! Our first post on the website and we had an experience of Rudding Park only this weekend!!

This site came highly recommended to us by someone I work with and we had to book about three weeks in advance to make sure that we got on. We are new this year to caravanning but are loving it and are quickly getting to know what we like and dislike.

We are both 30 and have a dog (no children) and therefore I think this influences what you are looking for in a site. We enjoy the peace and quiet (after a week in hectic and stressful jobs) and so bear this in mind with our review of Rudding Park....

We pulled up on Friday night, having read all the brochures, and were really looking forward to it. When we were directed onto the site, we drove round behind a warden and the best way I can describe it was bedlum!! This is obviously a very family orientated site and I'm not knocking that at all. However, by their own admission they had had a poor start to the season (with the weather) and as a result were trying to play catch up by getting as many people onto the site as possible. They weren't kidding!! In places it looked as though you stepped out of your caravan into someone elses!

We drove round and the place was absolutely teaming and having had an experience only a few weeks prior at Thornwick Bay in Flamborough where we were kept awake until 3.30am by inconsiderate campers, we were reluctant to repeat the experience and decided not to stay there.

At the risk of losing out money that we had paid in full to stay there we came off the camp site with the view that if we couldn't find anything a bit more in line with what we were after we'd come home. We did find a lovel quiet site a couple of miles away and ended up having a lovely weekend in the end.

We spoke to the manager at Rudding Park on Monday and he apologied as he said that the staff had taken his instructions to get as many bookings as possible quite literally!! Whilst we couldn't get a refund, he has opened an account for us with credit for one weekend at Rudding Park for later in the season.

We will definitely go back and have another go but maybe when it's out of season. I can't fault the site as it looks lovely but it really depends on what you're after. If you're after a quiet relaxing break then a massive family site like Rudding Park in the middle of the summer season might not be for you! Our fault really but as I said, we're new to this and learning!

Will let you know how we get on later in the season!

Hi Nic and Rob,

I wrote a review for Rudding Park earlier this year (May I think).  Like you we are in our early 30s and don't have kids.  We thought it was lovely and stayed on a hardstanding which gave us plenty of space.  See if you can get one of those and you shouldn't have any problems with being too close to neighbours.  It was great before the "high season" started and not too busy.  No problem getting a seat in the pub on the saturday night. I'm sure you will enjoy your return visit when the kids go back to school and it is a bit calmer. We plan to return if we can fit it in before the end of September.

Thanks I think you may be right. I didn't want to say anything bad about the place as it did look nice but it really was jammed packed and you'll know yourself.....there's nothing worse when you want a quiet weekend away!

That and the fact that we have an excitable 18 month old chocolate labrador too you can see where the recipe for disaster was coming in....!!! Ultimate carniage and chaos!!

Will definietly let you know how we get on when we go back. I am quite looking forward to it and think that if we can avoid peak times and school summer holidays then we'll have a nice time.
