Thanks

Marion

Hi Marion,

If it is Holland wood in the New Forrest you can stay everywhere on the site, it is really beautiful there. But always keep your tent or caravan closed and your food in boxes. Ponnies, squirrels and birds will break in!!

Have a nice holiday!

Hans

Hi Marion

Depends what you are after, but I wouldn't recommend Hollands Wood.  It is a nice site but I find the road that runs along side it noisy as it is the main run into Lymington, the ponies can be really annoying, you will queue for a shower and its expensive.  The Forestry Commision have better sites a little more off the beaten track which I think are nicer and slightly less expensive.  I stay at a 'roughing it' type of site in Minstead which I love but each to their own I guess.

Whatever you choose, have a nice time and mind those ponies!

Everyone has different views

Hollands Wood is one of our favourite sites, we have been thee times this year with another few days booked for September, lost count how many times have been over the years. Yeah the toilet blocks are a bit old, and you sometimes have to que at busy times but we have always found them clean and there never seems to be a problem with hot water and we adjust our times for showering to when its not so busy.

There is some road noise during the day but it quitens up in the evenings, we always pitch away from the road side as the site is sort of humped up the middle if you go inwards from the road the noise is less also helped by there then being more trees etc between you and the road.

This site is big and you can pitch where you want within the boundries as long as you are 20ft away from each other, there are also some tent only areas.

Best way of finding yourself a nice pitching area is to drive in to around the first toilet block area, park your car and have a walk round, you will miss some lovely pitches by just driving around.

Don't think we have actually pitched in the same spot twice, we always seem to fancy a different bit of the site each time, also having a motorhome we usually don't bother marking our pitch if we go out just find a new one when we come back in.

Hope you enjoy it there as it is a nice site, and so handy having Brockenhurst with its shops and pubs etc. withing walking distance.

Oh and to answer your actual question, have a look to the left side between the two main toilet blocks, there is some nice areas there, if you want it more shady then go up past the second block, if you want more sun then have a look around before the first toilet block.

I've not stayed there since I was a child, so probably 25 years ago now  but have many fond memories & can't really help with your question (sorry).

Just wanted to emphasise what has already been mentioned - Do watch your food & the ponies!  We used to get their heads in the caravan windows!  We went to the New Forest for the day the other weekend and a couple of ponies came straight over & trampled over all our picnic stuff, tried to eat the blanket & badminton racket fortunately we managed to get the food back in the cool box before they got to us.

Amazing place though, hope you enjoy your stay

Hi fellow campers!!.

Thanks for your replies - I haven't been camping for some while and you have enthused me.  Special thanks to AndyVines for in-depth reply, I shall certainly take your advice. Bananagang - where is Minstead?, Dizzybird - the ponies dont worry me but I will certainly keep our tuck out of reach!  Hans - thanks I will (unless this tortuous weather keeps up because I don't think have that much sense of adventure)!

Thanks all
