Hiya Guys
We're off on our travels again on Saturday.............4 working days and counting!!!
We'll be staying on 3 sites during this trip:-
Salcombe Regis Caravan Park (Nr Sidmouth) East Fleet Farm (Nr Weymouth) Cheddar Bridge (Cheddar)
All 3 sites have great reviews on here (which is one of the reasons we chose them all!) but just wanted a bit more 'first hand' information, like
Any great walks from each site? Any great pubs near to the sites? Best places it pitch up on site? How have you all found the sites (owners, facilities, etc.) Any of you guys staying on any of the sites?
At least the weather looks like it may hold out for another week or so....yippppeeeee!!!!
Any info/advice you may have would be much appreciated.
Cheers,
Kernow Camper

you're right about the weather, i checked out the met office website and sunny and warm until at least the 8th of september
We passed through cheddar gorge this weekend as we were staying at old oaks at glastonbury.....cheddar itself was very busy and loads of places to eat (and shop!) - so dont think you'll have any problems there. Have a great time.

How lucky will we be if it does hold out eh........considering our awful summer?!
Really looking forward to the Cheddar 'leg'. Went years ago (as teenagers - flipping long time ago now!) - don't suppose it has changed that much either?!

Hiya
We have been to Cheddar 3 times, and have just got back from a week at CC site which is just across from Cheddar Bridge site nxt to the football Field. As you come out of cheddar bridge site at the road side you turn left into the village, 50 yrds on right is Budgens supermarket. The village has a variety of shops, Tesco Express, charity shops, cafe's butchers, takeaways etc. As you head passed Budgens in the village you will see the sign for the gorge, right turn its about a quater of a mile to the start of the gorge, there is a car park, but if you do need to drive go early before 10.30, just as the shops open. The Gorge area gets really busy (damn tourists ha ha), There is a massive choice of tourist shops, Cheese making Toffee making place. Its £14 for a ticket to go in the caves, bus trip and Jacobs Ladder (view point).
If you go through the gates in the middle of the site (directly across from CC site (over a stream) turn right - under a bridge, turn left go up steps to the bridge top or cycle to the base of bridge and ride up, its a cycle path and walkway to Tesco Express at the far end of the village. ( 5 mins walk)
If you fancy a swim, turn left at as you come out of the pathway/cycle track near Tesco and left at the road junction to the leisure centre, lovely clean and quiet when we went. If you want to cycle or walk to the resivior (sp) water, as you reach the leisure centre Turn right up Ind Est passed tyre place and cycle shop. In the right corner at the top is a cycle/walk track, it winds for about a mile, behind houses, when you walk under the bridge, there are about 8 steps on the left, or a slope just passed it, that takes you up to a lane. Turn right passed a few houses and a church, through a gate and you are at the water.
Wow have I gone on a bit... but its such a lovely area. Enjoy, wish I was back there.
Shirley

Morning chook chaser
Thanks for the tip! The pub (Queen Victoria) looked ace on the website. I'm gonna investigate how far it is to walk there from Cheddar. Distance doesn't matter when there's a cold cider at the end of the journey!!!

Hiya Shirley
Thank you so much for that very detailed info on Cheddar.......it's really helpful. Unfortunately we only have 2 days in Cheddar so won't be able to do everything, but we'll try and cram as much into our days as possible! Loads of walking on the cards with our doggie!
Weather forecast still looking good so fingers crossed eh?
Cheers,
Sharon (Kernow Camper)

HI there. We stayed st East Fleet Farm last year, it is a lovely site in a lovely location. The pub on site is very nice, reasonable meals, and very friendly staff.
There is a lovely walk from the site to the right, facing the sea, to the "old church", it is worth a walk to see, if you can find it, it is quite hidden away, but it is a lovely place to find, and I dont think you need to be religious to appreciate it and its history. We also enjoyed a visit to portland, traveled around and stopped at a few places, near the lighthouse, and near to the entrance to the prison for walk abouts. We also took a drive to a monument on top of a hill, kind of north westerly from the site, cant remember what it was called, but it was on the OS map, but great views once up there, and lovely walks around that area too near the monument.

Hiya familyof4
Thanks for the info. Good to know the pub on site is good. No doubt we'll make our way over there most nights?!
We'll definitely try and find the 'old church' - it sounds wonderful. We're planning on leaving our motorhome on site for 3 nights and walking everywhere, especially if this nice weather continues! Hoping to walk to Weymouth and to Portland if we're feeling energetic one day!!!
Thanks again.
