My husband has decided he would like to go to cornwall when we go camping in october (yes I know - we're totally daft) cos its somewhere we've never been.
Had a quick look at the campsite search but not really sure where to start as Cornwall is a pretty big area and so can anybody recommend somewhere? Is there certain parts of cornwall that are particularly nice that we should visit? I would quite like to be near a beach but it would have to be one that dogs are allowed on.
Any suggestions?

My fave places are the Lizard and St Ives and Carbis bay.
You would have to check on the cornish tourist board website for details of beaches that allow dogs. You may be OK though as after the end of Sept some beaches allow dogs again after banning them for the summer.
From memory on the Lizard Kennack sands and Dollar Cove at Gunwalloe allow dogs.
I personally dont like Newquay much but I have the feeling the beaches there allow dogs.
Well, we've just had to lovely weeks at Tregarton Park, Gorran which is not far from beautiful Mevagissey AND they not allow dogs but there's also a beach called Caerhays fairly close by, (short drive I'm afraid), that does allow dogs according to the Tregarton Park info video. I'll see if I can do a linky thingy to their website....fingers crossed.....
Btw, dunno if you've got canvas or a tin tent, (didn't spot it on your profile coz I was so-o-o-o-o eager to let you know about this lovely campsite), but if you've got tin tent then the hardstanding pitches are lovely! Not the regular 'hard' that ya might be expecting and certainly will help to keep the inside of your tin tent clean with the pooch and traipsing mud and all sorts in
They've got a lovely Dog Meadow there for exercise too! It's gorgeous.
Hope this has been helpful?
It's me again....back now that I've spotted ya've got CANVAS!If ya click on any the pitches on their site plan ya can see just how h-u-g-e they are btw!
WE LOVE BUDE! Although we are a little bias as we live down here!!! Plenty to do in and around our area, not as packed as the likes of Newquay or say St Ives and we also have doggie friendly beaches!
Come down and see for yourselves!

We went to Mother Iveys Bay at the end of August. I haven't had time to do a review yet but we had a fab time.
On bank holiday w/end it was toppers and the toilets/showers were a tad grubby to say the least. We used the family showers instead but being near the beach the sand is everywhere. HOWEVER, its position near the sea is amazing and has a great beach that does allow dogs. You can also walk (about 10 mins) to Boobys Bay and Constantine Bay. (Also allows dogs).
We were in The Square on pitch 10 which was fantastic. We had a good look around as to where else we would like to be and pitch 49 in the middle field would give breathtaking views of the cliffs and sea when you exit the tent/caravan first thing in the morning. A word of warning though, the pitches are smaller that we have ever had anywhere! But do not let that put you off.
Theres a good shop on site for fresh bread, papers et al, and a great takeaway/restaurant called Prynns not far away (great Pizzas), also a Chinese takeaway.
You can also walk the coastal path to the left to Harlyn Bay. Another amazing beach with views to die for.
Padstow is only 4 miles away with a good Tescos.
Staff were very helpful and friendly and Jim the site manager was a top bloke.
Check out their website as theres a great site map.
We did go in August though and had fantastic weather but I'm not sure what it would be like in October.
A lot of statics on site but the site is terraced and you have to walk down hill to the beach. The last 20/30 foot is very steep. Views are not really interrupted by statics though and actually its nice to have a look at them on the way.
We were rather horrified to discover there is no freezer for use. You pay a £2 deposit for 2 ice blocks and then buy ice blocks for 30 pence each. This sounds awful but there were 15 of us and we did get around it. Nothing "went off" as we bought fresh every day.
A great laundry also. £4 a wash (powder dispensed automatically) and lots of dryers at a £1 for 15 mins.
If you need anymore info I'd be only to delighted to pass it on.
Our favourite bit is Land's End peninsula - we try to get down there every autumn/winter. St Ives can be a crush in the summer but is lovely out of season. Having said that, the furthest we've got with a tent is Crantock, a few miles to the west of Newquay. We stayed at Treago Farm for a week in August and wouldn't hesitate to go back. There are three dog friendly beaches within walking distance of the site and the location makes a good base for exploring Cornwall.

Hi, Devon and cornwall should at least be reasonably warm still in Oct. As to where to go... !! It's all lovely. Best to pick an area then check out the site reviews. Nowhere in Cornwall is far from rugged sea cliffs coastal paths, sandy beaches and picturesque towns and villages. If you're on the N. coast and the weather's a bit grey then a drive to the S. coast will generally get you better weather and vice-versa. A lot of sites are high up and will catch the wind, something to consider out of season, I reckon a sheltered S coast site will suit. A site with an adjacent warm cosy pub will probably help! I live in devon and dragged my caravan to Cumbria in June so coming this way with a tent won't be so bad. Enjoy your visit. Del.
Thank you all so much for your replies. Unfortunately due to circumstances I really don't think we can make it to cornwall this year now but after all the suggestions on here and the fab sites i've looked at we are now looking to book for next summer.
