Hi
We are thinking of a trip to shell next week ( mon -thurs)
Obviously weather is hard to predict but are we mad to go there at this time of year and if so can anyone reccomend a site on the coast no more than 3 hours from manchester that may be better sheltered ?
Many Thanks !

Get your self to shell island....if you think the weather is looking abit iffy when you arrive...just make sure you pitch in a nice little 'cranny' near to the sand dunes....have a great time....some of our best holidays have been in the latter end of september....you'll be fine i'm sure....

There are some really sheltered spots on shell island, just take two sleeping bags each or duvets as well........
Bloody hell! It's only September not January.

as nannycatcher says you should find somewhere quite sheltered near the dunes only trouble is its a distance to the showers and don't forget to check the tide times for the causeway being shut.
straight in front by the main entrance and down the hill to the left is my fav ....but it is open but you can watch the sea with the fire going!!!!!!!!
AND IF YOU ARE LUCKY YOU MAY SEE THE DOLPHINS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

depends on your sleeping bags...one good one can be warmer than five cheap ones...even in september!!!!!.......I,d rather my kids be warm and not keep waking me up in the night 'cold'....

if you are cold put something under the airbeds as some insulation!!! bubble wrap works well!!!
Also as any x carp angler a good sleeping bag is worth its weight in gold ,also the sleeping bag tends to work better if you have not got lots of layers on genrally just a tee shirt would surfice!!
Just back from Shell
It was virtually deserted !
We booked in for 2 nights with a view to seeing how weather went
This turned out to be a good choice !
First night was really really cold
However we awoke to lovely sunshine and had a decent day
last night though it was much warmer but very strong winds all night and lots of rain and we ahwoke to very gloomy looking sky etc
So we only had 2 nights but it was a nice break and we will be back in the warmer months !
